Hi All

I have thoughts about the Reflex M, Accession and phono stages from Darlington Labs (USA)

I am more inclined to get something from Graham Slee under the recommendation of a good friend, he managed to convince me to take the plunge into Chord Electronics for DAC... and he is right. Now I understand his preferred sound, which is very similar to mine... and now he swears by the Reflex M.

I want to get the Accession (yes I wrote back to John about the forum member discount) because I have many old records of both US pressings and UK pressings. So, I think that by going to the extra mile to get something at the top of the chain, I am avoiding sleepless nights with thoughts of "the one that got away".

Am I on the right track? Are there any members who have phono stages from Graham Slee and Darlington Labs to share their experiences and comments?

Thanking everyone in advance with appreciation.

Notes: I got back to the record hobby after a hiatus of 20 years. I now use a SOTA Comet VI turntable with Rega RB330 tonearm with Benz Micro Silver (High output MC cartridge). I am sticking to HOMC because of budget constraints and the relative ease of using good MM phono stages (if I ever got into LOMC, I am willing to upgrade by getting a good SUT and continue using a good MM phono stage).

Normally what you would do is borrow both the Reflex M and the Acc. M, listen to them, and decide for yourself what you want to purchase.

What part of the world are you located in?

RE: the other brand of phono stage you mentioned - to be clear this is a manufacturer forum and we don't promote other brands here. I'll just say that I've had half a dozen phono stages and have heard many more, including the other brand you referenced. Despite all that I have no interest in switching out what I currently have.

Often with other makers they have a very different philosophy from GS around how to make a phono stage. As GS wrote here years ago, every design has potential pitfalls and pros and cons. Ultimately the designer or brand must choose what philosophy they want to follow. Some designers have very strongly held beliefs about how to go about things.

Some brands simply follow market trends. One should be leery of certain companies that engage in heavy handed "guerilla marketing" through forums with loose moderation policies and few restrictions on vendors.

I am in Singapore, there's no agent or reseller for GS here though there are users of GS products.

I have placed my order for the Accession MM already, Smile I am of the inclination to believe and follow a friend who recommended GS to me, from his personal and vastly more experiences of owning different phono stages and dac/s. He owns the Reflex M and still swears by it as the end game product for him - the "Wow" factor which makes a listener just forget about the gear and want to listen for hours on end to music.

Much appreciated that you have made it very clear that this is a manufacturer's forum. Smile

I too, want to settle down on something so good and solid that I can enjoy, appreciate and don't have any good reason to change. SmileSmileSmile
