Hi everyone, I’m looking to upgrade my phono stage and could use some advice. I’m torn between the Reflex M and the Accession. My system:
Is the Accession a significant step up over the Reflex for this level of kit, or is the Reflex the "sweet spot" for a P6? Also, on the power supply side—is the PSU1-Enigma worth the extra spend over the standard PSU1 for an MM/High-Output MC setup like mine? Thanks in advance. |

Welcome. Both phono stages will work with the cartridges you mentioned. The choice in terms of what to buy is something you really have to decide for yourself. You could go by features or a in-home loan and then decide what to do. The Accession M has a patented form of RIAA EQ that other GS phono stages do not have. It also has some additional features like a second set of output jacks with a variable level control, some capacitance loading adjustments, and some settings for pre-RIAA records. The Reflex M doesn't have any of those things, but can be fitted with an optional mono switch. It is also less expensive. Re: the Enigma, IIRC it was originally designed for the Acc MC phono stage. However, some folks have been using it with other phono stages and GS equipment. |

I can recommend the Enigma with the Accession MM. I’m using a Hanna SH with that very set up on an Orbe with a SME V.

This is the age-old question really and just what the loaner programme was set up to help with. I really recommend that you take advantage of it to decide for yourself which phono stage is more suitable for you (your system, your perception etc). As for the Enigma over the standard PSU-1: as has already been said, it originally came about to suit the Acc MC but many of us believe that it offers improvements with other stages too. Again you need to decide for yourself and the loaner scheme allows you to do that.
Good luck, whatever you choose.
