Thanks to all for their input. Having listened some more last night I don't think the attenuators are having a noticeable impact on sound.

When time allows I may open up the amp and try the series resistor mod but I think the main issue as silly as it sounds are my ears... I suffer on and off with my sinuses/eustachian tubes, usually with the result that I lose some hf hearing. Because it's gradual it isn't noticeable until you reach a certain point and start doubting your hifi... but this time it seems to be messing with low frequencies. How do I know for certain? When I give my agricultural sounding Golf 1.9 tdi some "welly" it sounds quite refined right now!... some nasal spray is in order. Hopefully a relatively cheap fix for a frustrating condition...

Lots of sympathy, one of my colleagues is equally unfortunate and bears the discomfort and sometimes pain well plus a limited sense of smell at times. A cold, hayfever, and just dust all affect our eyes, nose, and ears. I certainly notice the difference when I 'wax' my ears! Not sure they're brilliant these days, if they ever were.

Fortunately there's no discomfort involved but it is a nuisance from time to time. The spray is slowly working it seems as the sound from the speakers seemed more balanced last night.

Hi everyone...i am a new user here. I am using on-line attenuators on my Vintage Luxman Amp a few years ago, quite possibly from the same supplier, I had them custom spec'd but cannot recall the value. Now sound is more relaxed, more open and even and less closed in. The overall dynamics improved albeit initially the snap and bass punch appeared to suffer.

Hi. Your observations mirrored my findings with my vintage Luxman. Which model do you have?
