A few years ago I published an interconnect project on the web, but our website www.gspaudio.co.uk had that many pages it became difficult to manage and the project had to go.

However, the good news is it wasn't deleted, and I've now uploaded it to some spare webspace where I archive things, and by clicking the link below it can be viewed again.

I have made one of these cables without using the silver wire based on a comment by Graham in another forum. 

I think he was basically saying that the silver was not always needed in solid state systems especially if your top end was bright enough already. I think Sol has made the cables with the silve wire and he can comment more on this.

The resultant cable has much better base and treble than the anonymous cable I was using previously between my  amp and green solo. I guess I need to sit down and make some notes next time sit down and listen.

As for phono plugs I have tried the below which seem ok and are thin enough not to touch each other when plugged into the back of the solo or relex.

One thing to note is that the plug as a cable grip on it and you are best putting a little oil on the outer sheath of the cable to be able to slide the plug on.

I am having trouble locating "genuine" CT 100 with the 5 air celled di-electric,everyone I've tried shows me the foam di-electric version saying,"it's the same mate".Any hints as to where it can be purchased on line in small quantities ??

It is dificult to get genuine stuff.

Check this guys shop for 5 or 10 meter lengths, I have got some stuff from him before. Weirdly if you go to his website and price up unterminated lengths it's more expensive than his terminated stuff on ebay.

There is another ebay guy who advertises Genuine Beldon CT100 but I hve not bought of him to confirm this.

Have a look at ebay but ask the seller whether it is genuine CT100 with the air cells.

This guy looks the cheapest but you will need to get confirmation from him.

The galling thing is the cheaper cable is £15 for 50m.

Satellites are my "other" hobby so feel free to PM me about the cable; OTTOMH it should be about £20-30 for 100m for air dialectic. Foam is more common.

And I promise I will write a review of my cables soon (made last year) and compare to Belden, Xindac and whatever other ICs I can find. One will be a tube amp/ TVC system, the other an SS system.

edit:

I should have a box full of short lengths in a couple of weeks (fingers crossed) so if you want any all you'll have to pay is postage plus a nominal contribution to help me cover the cost of the box being sent to me but the cable will be free; colour will be black or white. Let me know if you're interested.

As Serverbaboon commeneted I made up some of these cables with belden CT100 - pukka CT100 in otherwords ....
 
I've used a selection of boutique, ebay specials, and had made up all sorts of sheilded and other cables.
 
I only really noticed the difference once I'd got my system into a place where the sound was clean ... my digital system is pretty good from  adigitla noise point of view ... I, for a bit of fun, decided to make up an interconnect from some cat 5 cable. It worked, and sounded very good - indeed once I stripped it back and stuck it into a shoe lace (I kid you not) it sounded mighty fine.
 
BUT
 
after a few days I noticed a harshness up top .. there was something not quite right with the sound, and a discussion on another forum suggested that the lack of shielding was probably to blame. I was pointed towards Graham's suggested offering, and duely bought some CT100, silver etc and mad eup the cables. A very easy job, and togetehr with some ratehr nice connectors eitehr end, the end job looks pretty cool also.
 
Once in, the change was instant - the harshness up top had gone, there was a deifnate change to the better made more apprent form the sudden reduction in noise at the top end of the sound. For instance, Enya's voice on the Lord of the Rings soundtrack had always had a grate, a sharp edged sound that is really unpleasant. Harmonic distortion caused by RF or other digital noise? Anyhow it was instantly cleared up by swopping to shielded cables.
 
I was converted insatantly and set to and made about twelve pairs which replaced all otehr phono connections in my system - CD analogue out, DAC to Tube Buffer, Tube Buffer to Pre-amp, preamp to power etc etc. The rest went in all together .. nothing short of a revelation ... inky black silence, more focus on space between instruments, speaker transparency.
 
I'm again struggling with noise .. only because my source no longer has a linear PSU (back to a crappy wallwart) and I notice instantly just how pervasive and damaging RF and noise can be to the overall presentation. I will fix that PSU eventually.
 
As for whetehr the silve helps .. can't say I compared with just the copper. I have a detailed but warm tint prior to using the cables, and tehre's a slight increase in extension at both ends .... if anything I'd say my system favours bottom end  - but it did so prior to the cables - so can't suggest it's the cables doing anything in that respect. I'd guess, all tings being equal, the silver has brought a sparkle, so suspect that you may want to leave out the silve rin a overly top focussed system. If it's warm, and you fancy some detail and fizz, then the copper silver mix might be the way to go.
 
Annecdotally (because they didn't stay in the system long enough) I preferred to stay with the homemades when offered some Nordost Blue Heaven ICs - which to me offered nothing that I could hear right off the bat over the homemade cables.
 
Total cost for a single pair of these homemades - got to be less than 20 quid with good connectors - in bulk I reckon I was down to about 15 quid a pair, and able to have variable lengths ... a no brainer decision for me.
