In the quest to optimise SQ I have recently been researching AC Purifiers aka DC blockers. On the other Hi fi forums there are a lot of opinions expressed and probably some good science pro and against. I can appreciate there are conditionals associated with the relevance and efficacy of such solutions - the condition of the users’ domestic circuits, number and proximity of smart devices, quality of supply location and housing density or lack of to list but a few.

My analogous take is:

Why put Supermarket fuel in a high-powered car engine and expect superior performance?

I do not.

I do use the Enigma DC Power supply with my Graham Slee equipment having had the opportunity to A/B to the Enigma against the PSU1 before I purchased my kit. In my specific case I could hear an audible difference between the two which for me justified the Enigma option.

For supply from mains, I had been using a TCI Temple 6-way power block for some time now but thought it may be time to practically investigate what else is out there.

I therefore at first Purchase / loaned one well known DC blocker (from a big supplier) in single and then six port formats. The product is said to contain quite simple circuitry and filtering, but I did not physically investigate as I am not competent in that respect, and I treated it as a loan to be returned to Vendor.

Yes, it made a very audible difference – unmistakable in A/B testing with a variety of music. Clearer, more instrument separation and more 3D sound and authority.

I read around the forums some more and via the N**m Audio Community Forum (I do not own any of that kit but find members exchange of views interesting at times) the mention of products by Puritan Audio Laboratories who research, design and build near Oxford.

I tried out a four port Power Brick – yes good and a very certain improvement over the big supplier’s offering that I had previously trialled.

Knowing the four port would involve “rationing” among my three sources (TT, CD, Network Bridge), Integrated Amplifier and 3 GS boxes (Majestic, Accession M and Solo ULDE) I moved on to a Studio Master Purifier – a six-block model. Yes, for me a considerable step up in performance and one that gave me confidence that I was getting the absolute best I could afford out of my investment in quality hardware and GS cabling.

Left with one element sitting outside the purifier block a call with the extremely helpful John C confirmed I could safely piggyback the power cord from one of my Enigmas onto the BS1363 3 pin of another and I was all set.

No issues there.

After more research I went on to add a Grounding device to the Purifier which I then connected with 10mm sq  green/yellow cable to a pair of 4 foot ground rods in series (I did not have confidence based on excavation experience that I could sink an 8 foot rod) for me these yielded further improvements in SQ.

From my perspective a useful exercise and investment in optimising the SQ from my equipment. My ears suggested that this was not another so called  snake oil product set.

I would be interested to know if members for the GS Audio Products Forum had any views or experience with this aspect.

Be very careful adding additional grounding rods to your system. Supplementary electrodes are permitted but only to the main earth terminal. There are only to improve fault loop impedance and their inclusion is usually down to a designer.

It appears from your explanation that your purifier device is connected to main earth (via the ring main) and you’ve connected the purifier to the earth rods. That’s not allowed under the 18th edition. You’ve two different earth references on the same system. I’m assuming you’re not on an overhead TT system?

Please be careful messing with the electrical supply. Don’t burn your house down for a bit of a sonic change.

There are 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

I did however do my research before going down this road. I am satisfied the manufacturer of this well renowned product brought this safe product to market around 2019. For my part it is very beneficial.
The manufacturers write up is on the link and I have read many user testimonies of its efficacy and safety,
