Hello everyone !
I am as of last week the proud owner of a pair of Grado PS1000 headphones. I've owned Grado 325i's for two and a half years and have been promising myself the ultimate ever since and I must say I am absolutely delighted. I listen mostly to classical music and have always sought out the finest recordings - finest in the sense of recording quality . I am a huge fan of Linn records and Channel Classics in Holland. I have over the last few months started downloading studio master files from these companies and I find the uplift in quality over CD's quite remarkable. I use my 17inch mid 2010 mac book and iTunes to store and play the files . I convert the flac files to apple lossless using free software ( XLD ) recommended in the help section of Linn records all of which works perfectly. I then stream via USB to my ARCAM rDAC and then on to my GS Novo headphone amp which I bought at the same time as my 325i's . The Novo is powered from a PSU 1. It is my intention to upgrade my novo as soon as my finances recover and I assume the Solo linear would be the best fit ? As I have said, I am really thrilled with my new headphones as is i.e using the Novo amp. What would I expect to get from the upgrade ? Is there anything else I should consider with my set up to maximise the ps100's ? Thanks in advance and I look forward to an interesting discussion

Welcome Auntieogden, you've hit the nail on the head with HD vs CD on classical music.

Trying to help with your question I thought the Novo was very good especially with the PSU1. The Solo Ultralinear is even better especially with top end headphones. I am sure we have PS1000 and Solo ultralinear owners here, who can advise from personal experience.

When the fiscal batteries have part-charged, please let me know if you would like to try a Solo Ultralinear through the UK loan scheme. Or sooner if you want!

In the meantime it sounds like the Novo/PSU1 and PS1000's are doing a very good job with your music.

Best wishes

Jon

Welcome indeed, I cannot offer direct experience of that combination for you, but would second Jon's recommendation that, when you are ready, you contact him for a test drive of the UL.

Not 'til you are ready though (might hurt too much to give it back Wink)
