I know there’s a few of you with Audiomods tonearms so I’m hoping someone can help me with setup. I’m falling at pretty much the first hurdle.
According to the instructions the TT platter should be 25mm above the armboard. Mine is, but when I lower the tonearm with AN IQ2 cartridge attached the stylus does not get low enough to touch the cartridge alignment template. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Ifor, I suspect the arm lift needs adjusting, I recall having a similar problem on my Classic arm when I changed turntables. From the manual: Arm lift Check the vta setting carefully before adjusting the arm lift, it is set correctly when the vta is correct. If the arm is not free of the lift when playing a record vta may be set too high. The height of the arm lift can be adjusted by loosening the grub screw inset into the end of the lift platform. (1.5mm allen key). After adjusting, make sure that the lift clears the arm tube when a record is playing. Ian

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m guessing that your Classic is without micrometer? I don’t think what you suggest is an option with it. Looking at things today I think that, despite all measurements appearing to be correct, I’ll have to drop the armboard. I’ll try 6mm above plinth instead of 10mm.

Ifor, You're right mine doesn't have the micrometer. Presumably when the arm lift is lowered the arm can drop below level. I'm sure you've tried this, but is it just a case of the micrometer being toward the top of it's adjustment range rather than in the middle? Just a thought. Interested to hear how you get on - and how it sounds. Ian |

yes, it can drop below level but is still resting on the armlift which appears to be unadjustable. The micrometer is at its mid-point, I think. Will check later between qualifying and the Lions.

Just rereading everything, I notice that the instructions specify that the top of platter to top of armboard is a nominal 25mm. However, you say yours is 35mm, if that's correct then somethings wrong. In that case the arm board would need lifting 10mm or a 10mm spacer. That doesn't seem to tally with what you say in that the arm is too high. Ian

This is the point where I'd like to see a photo please so we are not at cross purposes and giving you misleading advice. There will be a little trial and error with this. Even the 25mm guidance will be a starting point, e.g. a shorter cartridge like a Rega would need the armbase to be lower down. I suggest focussing on the cartridge and headshell being level when playing a record, and the arm heght being right for this level with the micrometer in the middle of its range. With most of the cartridges I have owned I could fit their stylus guard in place and lower it to rest on the platter i.e. with no record on the turntable. As a reasonable approximation to the stylus being on a record but avoiding the risk of damaging either at this stage. If the arm/cartidge is off level (use my bar code trick) refit the arm/arm board to change the arm height and try again. I hope this helps but I appreciate you may already have done this Ifor.
