First post on this eminent forum.
I am thinking about buying an Accession and 2 x Proprius with Lautus interconnect and Spatia speaker cables. The idea is to connect the Accession direct to the Proprius. My question is: what is it a good preamp does that Accession does not? More than having more inputs of course... My present speakers are Spendor S3/5 combined with a small B&K subwoofer. Anyone have a thought how the Proprius will handle Spendors low sensivity, 84 dB? |

Hi,
I think the idea is that the fewer boxes the better. If you really have no other sources, why pay for a preamp? However, many of us on the forum do, and have opted for the Majestic. I run the Reflex M into it, but I also have four digital sources that need selecting. Perfect. If I had a vinyl only system (under consideration) then I'd use the Reflex into the Proprii and leave it at that. Finally, not purchasing a preamp also means one set of cables less, too. More money for new and second hand vinyl! Cheers and enjoy your decision making! Mick. |

Hi there and welcome
I use the Accession straight into the Proprius with truly excellent results. With a vinyl only system It's all you need. At some point I may get a Majestic or perhaps when the GSP pre is ready I'll go that route as I do have a lot of CD's. The only slight concern would be the sensitivity of your speakers - mine are rated at 88dB and present absolutely no problems to drive - 10:00 on the dial is too loud (for the neighbours). I'm not sure how much difference the 84dB rating of your speakers would make in terms of absolute volume level ... but someone here will know. EDIT: I just remembered Graham uses or has used LS3/5A's extensively and I think they have really low sensitivity so I'd be surprised if they, and therefore yours, aren't a good match. My Stirling LS3/5a V2 speakers are only 83dB but worse than that they're only 11 Ohms so maximum power from the Proprius with these is 19 watts.
However, the members in the pictures at the top of the page are witnesses to the loudness and quality this pairing produced in the two different hotel meeting rooms they were demonstrated in. Hoping this helps - and thank you for joining us ![]() |

Welcome to the forum!
As Dave said, an Accession/Proprius vinyl system would give you truly excellent results. Out of interest, what turntable/cartridge do you use? Am I right in thinking that you're in Sweden? You can borrow some Proprius amps (and an Accession) from this very forum to try out with your system. Drop a private message to Suggs (aka Derek) if you'd like to do this. I'm positive you'll be surprised at the volume levels the Proprius amps will give you, and then there's the sound quality . . .

You need a push? I can help you out there...
DO IT!!! But seriously, take advantage of the loan scheme. Lots of people do and it's a great way to find out if they're the products for you. If they're not, you've only lost the price of postage. If they are your kind of product, you'll know and you'll be able to buy with confidence. Win. Mick. |
