I've currently got two PSU1 units and they were purchased with about a year between them. During that time I think some small improvement was made to the design and so they're not exactly identical. Now I seem to have mixed them up and don't know which PSU1 came with which unit. It might be a stupid question but is it as simple as lower serial number equals older PSU1 unit?

Hi Johan,
You are probably correct about the serial numbers.
But I am sure that the older PSU1 should be the same quality power and sound.
I would use them as interchangable.
The PSU1's are all designed to provide filtered 24 volts DC regulated power; all of the GSP kits connected to a PSU1 have their own internal power filter and regulator.
This amounts to a Mains AC power stepdown and DC conversion in a separate power unit to be located 1 meter or more away from the GSP kit connected. This is meant to keep the AC power as far away from the sensitive audio circuits, thus reducing AC hum pickup.

Yes they both work excellent but I believe Graham did a small tweaking of the PSU1 design between my purchases in early 2011 and 2012 making them slightly different editions. I'm just interested to learn if there's a way of telling which PSU1 came with which unit as I've now got them mixed up. It's no problem or anything, I'm just curious. Smile

2011 starts 014 and 2012 starts 015.

Thanks Graham. I have 013 and 015, but the older unit (Solo UL) was purchased from an ebay vendor so I'm assuming I got a 2010 stock unit then.

Hi, the latest version of teh PSU have form of din plug rather than hard wired which is good for convenience and the cabling is more substantial but an extra connector is never that welcome!

Whilst I have yet to use my new Revelation and PSU, I have noted the new PSU appears to run 'cold' vs my existing PSUs are quite warm to the touch - same location.  Is this a feature of the later/current versions?

May seem like a daft question but presumably the current PSU do sound better than the old ones - I will be selling a PSU and don;t want to let a potentially superior one go (yes I can use my ears) but wonder if anyone had any experience?

Regards
Richard

Richard, I'd not noticed the cooler running myself. The PSU1 will run hot if called upon to deliver a lot more current - for example, used with the Majestic DAC it gets much warmer than when used with a Gram Amp. If anything it may be due to the latest "auto-fused" transformer. It may be a better batch of transformer steel: we specify a certain quality for reduced magnetisation current, and if a batch is even better than that, the magnetisation current will reduce further, and that would reduce idling current consumption and hence heat output.
