Hi Gents,
Thanks Jon and the UK loaner program, I've got the chance to try Bitzie and Proprius together with my Sonus Faber speakers at my small room. As Jon has sent me the GS interconnects and USB cables as well, I'll take sometime to briefly compare these cables with the ones I've got and intended to use with my set-up. At first, the Proprius, which is the main thing I am interested, does the job that I've never imaged that a small box (smaller than a shoe box) size amp can do. It does not need the speaker to be high efficiency or small . My speakers are 8ohm 86db with 7'' woofer, and that makes me not confident with Proprius when I'm in need of small amps able to work in non-ideal environment. The fact turns to be that Proprius shows great driving ability and proved itself. I'm not going too detailed here because I don't have other amps to make fair comparison, but the Proprius does drive my speakers very well and good enough to satisfy me. Gonna saving for a pair! Now it's time for Bitzie, a lovely small device. My first impression of Bitzie is not that good TBH, just added a USB power supply unit to the USB cable made a improvement, smoother and more enjoyable sound. The power supply part of Bitzie could be improved as many other usb powered devices. Although I like the sound of Bitzie and its features (no driver required and no need to adjust time when watching movies), it is not the ideal device for me as I've already got interconnects and don't wish to waste them. Bitzie does not have a proper RCA out, that adaptor can be used with many rca cables...just not mine, mine was XLR cables (made for AES digital purpose) with neutrik XLR-RCA adaptor..too big for the stereo jack to phono socket adaptor. Basically I would use this pair as my AES digital cable, or XLR interconnect, or RCA interconnect so I don't need to buy any new interconnects for 2nd system. It's pretty sad because I like the sound out of PC produced by Bitzie, it saves so many worse quality records...I've switched Bitzie with Chord QBD76 (use the knob on Proprius to adjust volume) and found many records to be unlistenable. Compare to my existing interconnect and usb cables, I found GS cables sounds generally smoother, with smaller soundstage but clearer details. And the energy tends to focus on the mid-range. So the vocal sounds more real and closer to me. When it comes to concertos, it lacks the feeling of surrounded by the music. The idea and GS house sound just gets very clear after listening, enjoyable, neutral, smooth mid-range and overall transparent. Nothing with harsh Highs or bassy lows, not focus on the impressive dynamics but perfectly good for long time listening if you are a music lover. That's some impressions I've got after a few days listening, will post more if I found more during the rest of trial time. Thanks for reading.

I'll have to look around and see if there is anyway I can get a decent small USB dac...My rca cable plugs measures 2cm pin to pin, means the RCA sockets must have 1.5cm at least in the middle, while most of them has only 1cm.

I gave you all the cables needed to connect your PC to the Bitzie and Proprius so you could use your existing speaker cables and speakers. The Bitzie uses your PC's USB power supply so it may be worth checking what else you have plugged into this. |

Call me a fanboy but... I personally think the sound quality coming out of those twin analogue outputs on the front of the Bitzie is freaking amazing...
The loan units will have already had quite a lot of power-on time so keep all the equipment on for a couple of hours then you should be getting a very immersive output signal. If you still find yourself not hearing this, speakers or headphone aren't doing the equipment justice. From what I've heard from my Bitzie, it must surely knock several shades of crap out of 90% of the digital market. The sonic immersion is simply undeniable.

Regarding the Bitzie, I have to agree with Ash. This has been my constant companion over the past few months travelling frequently with work - in daily use over the past week or so. The Bitzie (and a good pair of in-ear headphones) give me exceptional audio quality on the move and I really cannot be without it. Tomorrow night I will take a long haul journey back home and for most of that I will be listening to music. I had used other portable or computer DACs before and none were a patch on this amazing little device

To Jon: I've added a separate USB power supply, means the usb power is not supplied by my computer but a decent power supply unit, made the sound better no matter what usb cable is used.
I've got no problem regarding Bitzie's SQ, it is amazing. I'll need to look around at this price range and see if there is anyway I can keep my existing interconnects. If my existing interconnects cannot be used anyway...Bitzie+Lautus+Proprius is a lot to spend.

No need to buy it all at once. Maybe just start with a Bitzie and Lautus USB cable bundle for £400, which considering the price-to-performance ratio is a bargain that is affordable for normal people who use money resources sensibly.
