Dear All,
seasonal greetings (spellcheck went for allergies) I am going to ask Lord Sir John C. to make an Accession for me (completely convinced) with an Enigma psu (Technics SL 1210 mkii with ortofon blue) but I’ve been revisiting some old pressings and wonder if y’all can help…? I have a (very old/original) Ixos mk6 record cleaner and it doesn’t really do what it once did… before I play another bit of dust coated music, can anyone suggest a good pre-play brush/cleaner, please.

I've been trying to track down the best way to remove noise i.e. pops & clicks when playing records. I was positive that all my record collection was clean having been through what I thought was a thorough rcm wash & dry, some having previously been cleaned by manual Knosti. Testing another clean with an even better rcm ( a Nessie) proved the culprit was remaining dirt. I have since purchased a Velvet Vortex ultra sonic cleaner which has proved to be equally effective. It may be bettered by (rediculously) more expensive u.s. cleaners but Velvet Vortex is an excellent solution at a reasonable price. Added to which there is excellent support from a UK manufacturer.

I would second the recommendation of an ultrasonic record cleaner. A good one is a large investment but improves the listening experience considerably.

I too use an ultrasonic cleaner, in my case a Humminguru, and I am very pleased with the results I get from using it.

thanks to you all for your help, much as I love my record collection, I’m not sure where a Velvet Vortex would fit into my home, I like Chris Firth’s idea of a surface wipe cleaning setup - is there a way to ‘refresh’ the antistatic brush I have, or do they have a lifespan (so to speak)?

I'm not sure if they wear out. I think Chris's suggestion is a good one.
