Hi, all, as a new member with age- and work-related hearing loss, I have a a dilemma. My hi-fi sits unused, although my Genera RIAA and Roxan amps are always plugged in. The problem is that I cannot play music, because it causes howling feedback in my digital hearing aids. Not using my hearing aids makes the audio sound awful. As my hearing damage is different in each ear, I thought about building a Novo headphone amplifier and buying some decent headphones. I would then need to build a passive equalisation unit to sit between the RIAA and headphone amplifiers. Graham, how feasible would this be? |

Mik, welcome to the forum. I too use hearing digital aids. With all due respect any decent audiologist should be able to adjust your hearing aids to cope with music. I have standard NHS issue Phonak aids with 3 settings, normal, crowded room conversation and live (loud) music which work equally well with music at home .
A visit to the audiologist might well solve your problems more readily than a bespoke headphone amp. Happy listening. Ian

Thanks, Ian, I've tried several times to get my nhs audiology department to adjust my hearing aids for music. They did give me different cones that were supposed to boost bass response, but no program changes. BTW I've go Oticon Synergy aids.

My next design project is to do with preamps and I have thought about EQ (punishable by some on here by me being burnt in a Wicker Man )The design work is admittedly 18 years late, the last 4 years being taken up by a REAL retro amplifier (a retro design in a modern box, rather than a modern design in a retro box). So, I would be interested in knowing what the cut and boost frequencies required are.
