A few months ago I started using the LEDR ("Listening Environment Diagnostic Recordings") with the PDF guides available from Nordost and Audiobeat as downloads. I had spent some time before that fine tuning my GX100 speaker setup by ear so it was good to find the Lateral and Over tracks were reproduced well.

My recommendation is using the LEDR tracks and manual to quickly get a fresh install working well. I have (hoarded!) a pair of Acoustic Energy AE505's and fancied a change around this morning. Combined with some thought about distances from the walls, the LEDR made positioning the AE505's much easier. Moreover I found the Audiobeat tip about pivoting round the innermost spike when toeing-in helpful.

Thumbs Up I have also used the LEDR recordings in the past and these tracks do help set up speakers correctly. Using the Up followed by Lateral tracks produces a rising arc, like an audible rainbow once everything is correct & you hear a very realistic, almost 3D soundstage on music thereafter (if it's recorded that way)

Some years ago I used to have a record which was supposed to help you set up your hi-fi. It covered such things as left/right channels, phasing, sibulance etc. I would find it quite interesting to have a copy of the Listening Environment Diagnostic Recordings to help get the correct positioning of my new speakers. Can you tell me where one can obtain a copy?

Hi Phil (or other regulars), I have the System Set-Up & Tuning tracks as a 650mb wav file and it includes the 3 LEDR ones: Up, Over and Lateral. If you have Dropbox and PM me the details I can let you have this

I downloaded the 320kbps LEDR MP3 tracks from here:
http://www.audiocheck.net/audiotests_ledr.php

And the manuals with diagnostics were from these two sites:

http://www.theaudiobeat.com/blog/speaker_placement.pdf

I switched back to my GX100's last weekend, using the LEDR tracks again to explore the changes in width and toe-in. I ended up with them converging just in front of my listening position, rather than behind me. This gave more depth and a good stereo spread of instruments, thanks in part to the repeatability of the LEDR test tracks.

Interesting Jon. With my OB's, using the LEDR tracks they sound best converging behind me and I get the correct height/depth results including the 'rainbow' effect. The system gives a very precise soundstage but only slightly wider than the speakers and with good depth. Angling inwards tends to create a more in-your-face centre image and the impression of a smaller, shallower stage

I also find that small changes in toe-in have quite an impact on frequency response, maybe because the OBs rearward dispersion starts to hit the side walls? I guess different systems, different rooms....
