Hello everyone. I don't get on here too often but I've been let out for a short while to bring you this news.
We have discovered some really nice sounding cable technology and would like to get it out to the loaner program as soon as possible. What I need to know is what length speaker cables you guys would need. It's no good me making them 2m long when you need 4 or 5m so get posting on here or send me a PM and once I've got some idea I can get on with making them. JOHN

Boy you are all going to hate me in that my answer will depend on how flexible the cable would be. If very flexible I would say 3 meters would be ideal. However if not then Graham may wish to offer the speaker cable in up to three lengths.
1 meter for those who like me use small speakers in a near field arrangements. 3 meters for those who use speakers adjacent to their amps. 5 meters for those who place the speakers a bit off their amps.

One length was never going to suit everyone. This suggestion should certainly cover most requirements. |

Another question I have is - will the loan speaker cable be terminated in any way, or just bare wire?
Oh - another question! John, can you supply terminated cable to order (spade or banana plugs)? That's for purchase, not loan . . . Thanks. Oh - a third question
Does this speaker cable have a GSP name? |

"Let out for a short while..." makes me look like a slave driver doesn't it? ![]() He must be meaning somebody else ![]() Most systems will have the amp sat on a shelf or rack and the height could be anything up to say one metre, so you'd need a metre drop to the floor. Most speakers will be on stands at ear level when seated so I'd allow another meter for the rise. In a 4m x 5m room the speakers could be sited on the long wall with the hi-fi rack in-between. Allowing 1 metre spacing from the room corners then the equal distances will be (5 - 2)/2 = 1.5m. Add 2 metres for drop and rise you get 3.5m. If everything is on the desktop for near-field listening/monitoring then 1m looks OK, but maybe 1.5m to be on the safe side? Then there's the speakers arranged either side of the fireplace scenario. Where's the hi-fi rack or shelf going to be? In one house I remember, the amp was on a sideboard behind the listening position (a couch or settee) and that required extremely long speaker cables to negotiate the room's perimeter. Perhaps we need to steer clear of this for the loans, but I put it in just to illustrate. However, the shelf or rack could be sited on the left or right walls and taking 5 metres for the room width, the farthest speaker would be 4 metres across. The shelf could be around 1.5 metres out from the corner, so that's a horizontal run of 5.5m. Add the drop and rise makes 7.5m, and perhaps the user would want both cables the same length even though the other speaker is much closer? Therefore my suggestion is: 1.5m; 3.5m and 7.5m Sorry for being awkward John... ![]() |
