Sorry for the late reply, been off the reservation
I chose the Spendors as I used to have a pair of S3e a couple of years ago but was silly enough to get rid of them. I had been hankering after a pair of SA-1s for a while now, being a sealed box design they are not really fussy about placement so when a pair came along at a good price I snapped them up. For me they may not have the deepest bass in the world (could always get a subwoofer for that) but they are pretty forgiving of harsh recordings as they tend to roll off at the HF (typical of BBC types I guess) so more modern CDs sound a lot better than before. Another plus point is that they a beautifully made speaker.
