We supply and use the Rothwell attenuators on a regular basis. Our Melody amplifiers feature stepped volume controls and it's exactly as Adrian Rothwell describes in his ads - either too quiet or too loud. Means you can take volume up from 10 o'clock to 12ish so accessing more of the dynamic range of the amp.
In use (with other amps too), I can't hear any difference (detrimental or otherwise) in the sound. However, when used between a pre and power amp (i.e. plugged into the back of the power amp), they definitely improve things. It's all about lowering the noise floor but there are others on this form more qualified to comment on that side of things.
Not tried the Russ Andrews ones. 10db of the Rothwells works fine.
I've never used them with the Solo - has anyone here?
