I was planning on buying an integrated amplifier by a Japanese manufacturer.
No thanks now.

Their stuff is top quality, but if they favor brightness over neutrality...I am out.

A mastering engineer once mentioned that re-mastering jobs done in Japan often add large amounts of "air" to music by boosting the whole area around 16 - 20 KHz.
Apparently that is the kind of sound they like.
