Just give this a listen it is a superb remix of an old classic.
I am streaming it on Tidal (to avoid too many £ for a physical version).
Just loving it . Pity there is no Space Truckin though.
Enjoy!

I have to disagree with your use of the word superb!

Of late Steven Wilson has taken to mixing using his Audeze LCD5 headphones, saying that they have a flat response.

I hear that he’s turned up the bass out of proportion, and the bass sound swamps other instruments in the mix.
It sounds awful when compared to Martin Birch’s original mix.

Ok thanks for the steer re Qobuz.
My playback seems more open and fresh compared to the other versions I have.
Just horses for courses!

Measurements (several examples) show those headphones (like many) are far from flat. Above 2K the response is quite "choppy". The way to flatten out the response in a professional DAW environment would be to use EQ correction software such as Sonarworks. Their software is popular for this purpose. I don't know if SW uses it or something similar or not.

I have not heard this remix. I've enjoyed some of his remixes before but consider them more of a fan curio or alternative version, not something to replace the original mixes.

Yes I have the original vinyl (since I was 15), the remastered CD and enjoyed the different perspective the Steven Wilson remix brought to the table.
Yes a fan curio but nice to ring the changes and hear different aspects and atmosphere which I think this mix brings. There are no right answers here and the whole subject is totally subjective..I do take on board and respect your technical observations.
