If you want to know what digital direction to go in may I suggest the loan of a Bitzie USB DAC with Lautus USB cable?

It is already known to be on par with quite a few big DACs.

OK, it doesn't play the numbers game but there's still Bingo halls for that...

But it delivers! Period.
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps

Whilst browsing on AMAZON I came across a RINGMAT CDI BLUE+STATMAT Has anybody ever used one of these with their cd player or is this just another way to take money from the unwary(BS in other words)

Hello Stuart. Yes, me quite a few years ago
 
My younger placebo-self was convinced that I heard a difference until one day it decided to tangle itself in the front-load player mechanism and I had to dissassemble my entire CD transport to recover it. I threw the twisted mess away

I suppose there could be some mileage in anti-static products for compact discs.

The transports spin quite fast and I'd have thought would centrifuge any dust off the CD, but I could be wrong. There is no stylus to get clogged with fluff like there is with vinyl.

It will obviously add rotational mass adding to any flywheel effect which may or may not improve mechanical speed stability.

Sandwiched between the CD transport "turntable" and CD it could probably alter the distance between the laser reader and the CD surface, and its focus, and that may lead to a difference in sound.

Some people used to use a green marker pen on the rim of the CD to "prevent light scatter", and although I never tried it (but I may do), it sounds more plausible IMO than an anti-static mat.

Thanks for the replies ANDREW & GRAHAM
I believe the latest incarnations have sticky backing to stop it disappearing into the cd player which apparently can be used over and over(mmm)I just wondered if they did anything to enhance the sound
I suppose it is a case of suck it and see Ah well
