Can anybody recommend some closed headphones (preferably in various price ranges) that are good for classical music?
I'm trying out some Beyerdynamic DT660 right now, which have a nice sound quality, but it was pointed out to me that there are many bad reviews on Amazon.com regarding their lacking build quality. Apparently they break easily so I'm sending them back. I tried Sennheiser Momentum 2 at some point, which I liked, but they are very colored. Then I owned a pair of B&W P7, but those I had to sell as their clamping force was too tight for me. As for head amps, I'm using a Novo and will receive another brand head amp tomorrow - a very neutral and transparent amp according to reviews. So I should have both a musical amp (Novo) and a neutral one. |

Sennheiser stopped making the headphones you would fall in love with...
HD250II !!! If you can find a new pair of these you will not regret it. |

That none should be able to buy or sell without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps

Thanks for the recommendation
I did notice there was a thread somewhere in the forum about the HD 250 II, I'll check it out. There is actually one pair up for sale here in my country and I have made him an offer. They are cheap, luckily, but should be ok judging from the photos in the ad and what the guy writes about them in his sales ad. |

Is the sound "leakage" from open backed headphones such a deal breaker? I've a pair of Denon D7000s I use in the living room (as much to keep TV noise out, as the other way round!), but classical music sounds better on open backed headphones (I use LCD-2s and HD650s) . . . Apart from big orchestral fortissimos, most classical music wouldn't leak out much at all unless you listen at levels that'd blow your brain out with the 1812 finale .

HD250 is the best closed-back headphone I've used. Either version sounds great; thoroughly transparent. I like the sound of the open-back HD540II more but if you need a sealed headphone, HD250II or Etymotic ER-4s IEMs would be my recommendation.

mm:
It's not sound leaking out from open backed headphones that is the problem It is the other way around: It is noise coming IN - from the traffic outside. Ash: Thanks for the recommendation I was lucky and found a pair of HD250II in the used ads - I bought it and it should arrive on Monday. Looking forward to trying it. |
