Location was mix of simple geometry and trial and error. They are supported by nails sticking out of the shelves on my rear wall which are shallow (so couldn't use shelf contents to break up the reflections as I do elsewhere) and full of DVD's and Blurays. I have the two 600x600 diffusers either side of the stereo centreline. One was insufficient as I could hear slapback, clearly you are aiming the toed-in left and right speakers at the wall behind you where they reflect back to you. My listening position is roughly 1200mm (about 30%) out from the rear wall. I have deadened the room acoustic with wide band absorbers but made sure the decay time is fairly consistent across the frequency range, it's dry rather than dull. I have bass traps in the corners, one between the frontspeakers, and a couple more as ceiling rafts hung over the front speakers. Another two diffusers in the ceiling at the first reflection point. Time spent on moving the speakers and listening position is important, it is the room you are listening to so knowing where the nulls and peaks are helps. Still had to compromise in order to have bookshelves and LP rack. You are right about filling up space with treatment and needing to live in the room. My main piece of advice is don't start on room treatment unless you are sure about committing the time and money involved. Good speaker and listening locations will get you most of the way, as I think you'll already know. I hope that helps Colin. Edited by Fatmangolf - 18 Jan 2021 at 11:50pm |
