I have similar reservations about the effect on the DAC of the power supply and earthing in a PC. For most uses this won't be a major problem and I can believe the Solo UL will do a good job with whatever source equipment you plug in.
I used to use an old PP3 powered DIY headphone amp when testing equipment or mods I made. Now I use the Solo UL because it is totally honest and I hear the Source's good or bad points straight away. Similarly the sound is as good as the headphones I use, just as a guitar amp's 'character' depends on the speaker(s).
Above the Solo UL is musical and engrossing. It is very revealing in the midrange with no fuss or shine and no mush added.

I have just found another "pair of headphones" to test the Solo UL...
The Proprius power amps and the Harbeth M20's ![]() I am driving this from the output of the Solo UL with a parallel 33 Ohm load just to be fair. Results so far: A ruddy good preamp! Update 23:25 hrs: You just got to witness this! OK, I know there isn't enough room in here for all 700 plus of you but one at a time we could get through this in 700 hours or so... ![]() Edited by Graham Slee - 06 Sep 2011 at 11:23pm |

I feel tragically hampered by the North Sea
