The 45 rpm 7" single is 78 years old according to a news report...
"EMI's Abbey Road studios in London, where many iconic UK singles were recorded and mastered, can trace its history back to 1931" Long live vinyl! |

A label which is doing a fine effort to keep vinyl alive is Mute Records (EMI).
I just bought the new Depeche Mode single ("Wrong") directly from Mute, in a special bundle: for a few pennies more than buying the two CD singles (normal and remixes) separately, they'll also throw the 7" vinyl into the offer. A very welcome bundle, especially since the vinyl version contains an exclusive version/mix of the B-side. It's not the first time that Mute does this for Depeche Mode. And also the upcoming album "Sounds of the universe" will also be available on high quality vinyl: http://depechemode.com/sotu.html (but I admit that I have chosen the deluxe CD boxset...) |

Update: I received the various formats of the "Wrong" single today. As I said, it's 2 CDs plus the vinyl. Great news: the vinyl is beautiful, a red brick color with marble-like nuances. Yes, at least visually vinyl still has an edge over CDs...
Now I only have to "borrow" my parents' Philips turntable from their house to be able to listen to it... ![]() Edited by Lucabeer - 10 Apr 2009 at 5:52pm |
