In these days where tape recorders have been replaced by computer is there really a need for the old DIN tape loop sockets? If a product was too small to allow phono sockets (RCA jacks) the choice would have to be DIN sockets or 3.5mm jacks. These days almost everything comes with accessory "patch" leads having phono or 3.5mm jack plugs, so would most users even know what a DIN socket is? Please take part in this discussion and vote for your preference. ------------- That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps |

Are you talking of the 5 pin DIN socket? I recall them but honestly can not see their use in the USA (home application). ------------- Miguel |

I can fondly remember using DIN plugs and sockets to make my own cables to connect between radios and cassette decks long long ago. They were expensive (for a teenager paying 70s prices), extremely fiddly to hold and most attempts to solder one usually ended with me burning my fingers or completely melting the plastic that held the 3 or 5 pins in place, or didn't as was often the case.  3.5mm jacks anyday.  ------------- To err is human, to really mess things up takes a software engineer |

If tweaked on occasion by a twisting action to remove any oxides that could build up, and by cleaning with some alcohol cleaner prior to connection - which really ought to happen with all new connectors - then IMO they should be just as good as phono/RCA plugs.

| is there any issues with smaller surface contact? is that why you need to make sure you have a clean contact? i remember someone telling me about the advantages gpo connectors have over bantam connectors and something along these lines being mentioned... |
