I was enjoying an Indie Top 20, volume 6, this morning - a selection of late eighties indie and techno tracks. I was never sure how the charts were done but liked the music.

When I spoke to the record shop owner it's the album he recommended to me, he did others there.

Now I am enjoying volume 7 of the Indie Top 20 compilations? It starts with the Pixies' Monkey Gone To Heaven and has many more late eighties indie/alt songs of merit. Great to hear the music of my twenties again.

Talking about musicians with mates last night I had to admit that, to my shame, I've not knowingly listened to Wizz Jones and was suitably chastised.  By way of catching up, I've been playing his compilation 'On the Road 1964-2014' for Qubuz.  What a guitar player!  Ranging through blues, bluegrass and folk. One mate told the tale that Wizz was playing at a festival in Norfolk recently, aged 83, and just blew away all the younger players, no one could touch his finger picking style.  Well worth a listen for anyone who like guitar music.

I know a lot don't like compilations or greatest hits albums but they are a good way into seeing what an artist as to offer, that way you get to hear the music they have come out with over the years and their different styles as they may changed ie you like 1 or 2 tracks then buy an album of theirs and find it's not the same style and you don't like it.

I was listening to "Honeyglaze" and enjoying it but part way through side two had a power cut.
