Due to room constraints and the fact that my music system is in a different room to the t.v. (upstairs!) and that most t.v. sound now is rubbish because of the small speakers they have to use. I have to confess using a Yamaha soundbar and Yamaha subwoofer connected to the t.v.'s optical output.
The t.v. is an oldish 40" Samsung cold cathode flourescent light backlit model. For some reason I prefer the ccfl backlighting to the current l.e.d. (usually)edge lighting which can sometimes display ligh bleed onto the screen.

Despite the lack of lots of big boxes and heavy cables, soundbars do work pretty well!

I hope I'm not in another wicker man situation, like the time I mentioned tone controls or when I remembered that time in Family Guy when they ...

Further to earlier posts on this issue, are there any sound engineers with experience in TV who can shed light on why, programmes like "Happy Valley" provided such poor sound dialogue from a standard TV.
Was it simply that the source recording was so poor, inferior TV speakers, something else or a combination of issues.

Is there a sensible route to follow in trying to extract the best possible sound from a TV and is there a role for gsp.audio products to help achieve that end?

If there was a version of the Bitzie DAC that had optical in (rather than USB) - most modern TVs IME seem to have optical out rather than coax - then you could extract the best quality signal from the TV to relay to a pukka amp. Or of course a Majestic/Proprius combo Wink.

I'm just setting up a bedroom system (for music and TV) with a small amp and have had to buy a little DAC (dirt cheap) since the TV doesn't have analogue audio out. Had the Bitzie supported optical in then the temptation would have been too great . . I'll compare the TV sound with the "hifi" sound . .

OK, so now I have to design a little box solution with optical in and analogue out??

If it makes me a living I'll do it. But exactly when I wouldn't be able to say. Plus I might forget in the meantime.

Oh, if only I could just be a full-time design engineer, such a lot I could achieve. And if every single member were to spend an hour every day searching the keywords of products we make and clicking on any of the hifisystemcomponents.com results they find (somewhere past page 89...) we could reverse google's spell of invisibility, and that might take the pressure off for me to do so. I suppose I can dream ... LOL

My TV doesn't sit between my stereo speakers so I don't use them for it, but I've heard others state a preference for sound bars/sound bases, over good HiFi, because with stereo you don't get the central lock best needed for dialogue.
