How much surfactant and what speed are you using there? The entire record surface looks to be slick with water. I hope your labels are okay.

I use distilled water with a photo wetting agent - TBH I just added a very unscientific amount on a "suck it and see" basis. The labels stay dry - the water on the record doesn't drip down as the record turns.

The motor unit (from a guy in Florida) turns quite slowly, but anyone with a bit of DIY knowledge could probably knock a system up quite easily. I got the "single" version with a second disc attachment; the vendor sells a multi disc option but I found that even with two records loaded, the gap between the records doesn't seem to get as much agitation as the rest, so I now just clean one at a time.

I air-dry the records on a rack.

Second hand purchases go through a stage prior to the U/s bath using Pure Vinyl spray, a soft fine tipped toothbrush and micro-fibre cloths.

Great DIY Bob. It seems only weeks ago we were discussing ultrasonic cleaners and you've built one for a lot less than I paid for my Audiodesk!

I figure I can get the 1/10th or 1/12th RPM motor when and if Vibrato has any 80kHz ultrasonic cleaners for sale. Poor guy makes them in small batches by hand. If it ever needs service, he only lives one state away so shipping shouldn't be awful.

One fellow mentions he uses no more than 3-4% isopropyl alcohol and 2-3 drops of photo-flo (sometimes none) in a 6 liter batch of cleaner. The alcohol also helps break the surface tension and dry the record but higher concentrations can produce too much flammable vapor. Ethanol alcohol isn't a good combination with PVC.

I love the people crying about cleaning the release agent off their records. The guys at the factory aren't spraying the presses with cooking spray or whatever they imagine. It's formulated into the plastic itself.

It's a pretty low concentration as 30ml of Audiodesk fluid is enough for 5l of distilled water.

Being a "value for money" hifi enthusiast, I'm always on the lookout for cost effective solutions. I stumbled on a record cleaner by squeakycleanvinyl.com

The gentleman Nick, who is in Canada, has produced a non electric cleaner using 3D printed parts. I have to say this has really done the job for me at a fraction of the cost of electrical cleaners. Worth a look.

Nice find. Can't wait to see how far DIY 3D printed gear further helps us Vinyl Heads!
