Hi folks, my name is Henry and I've recently acquired a solo ultra linear diamond edition with the linear power supply. It's a stunning amplifier.. Props to Graham. I'm listening to it on original sennheiser hd600 and running her from my fiio ka17 dongle.. I'm planning to get a proper dac soon (I was looking at one of Rob Watts's offerings.. Need to save some pennies first). Everytime I listen to the amp, the word that comes to mind is pristine. The stage is excellent. Even with the hd600. It kinda pushes out the close-in three bob hd600 stage lol. Crystalline clarity and complex shape to the sound. I was wondering about the circuit. What class is the topology? I took the lid off to have a look and noted a massive potted op-amp and 4 transistors. Is she class A or AB? Is the op-amp a proprietary discreet? Thanks. I love this little thing xx

Cheers CageyH, I just took a look. Class AB. Op-amp looks like a bar of chocolate lol. Xx

Right, some further reading done. Am I correct in saying the op-amp is a modified dual jlh 1969 class A circuit? The reason I'm asking these questions is so I can tell my friends why it sounds like it does LOL . Cheers boyz xx

Tbh there's nothing visible about the op-amp as it's potted.I was just interested in the topology. It's an amazing piece xx

I would expect the op amp to provide the voltage gain and drive the output transistors which are probably class AB. If they are hot without music, maybe class A.

Yes. In the spec's CageyH pointed to, the amp is stated to be class AB in operation. I read an article that mentioned the ULDE, linked to the jlh 1969 class A circuit. I read a fair amount of Grahams posts, talking about the jlh class A circuit and it's use (or similar) as the output in the NE5534 chip. I wondered if that very topology was, in fact, heading up the ULDE... obviously supported by a push pull set of transistors afterwards xx
