After loaning a Reflex C unit for a couple of weeks. I decided to Purchase one.
It arrived a couple of weeks ago and it has been on ever since. I knew what the Reflex C sounded like with the PSU1 and I have a N**m Flatcap XS power supply box with a spare output so I thought I would try that as it outputs 24v too. John C made me up a cable with my order. I also requested a different ohm loading from the normal offerings to the 100ohm or 1Kohm at 470ohm. The reason for that was the cartidge I have (Hana SL) is stated as requiring >400ohm and 470 of course is but also the same as the loading on the Phono stage I was using, a N**m Stageline.
The Stageline is a very good phono stage but I thought I could do better hence trying the Reflex C. I loaned the std 100ohm version. It was great of course and convinced me to buy one for myself but there was a small high end sligh metalic sound to the top notes some time. I put this down to a mismatch in the loading hence ordering a higher loading.
The difference in the higher loading for my cartridge is subtle but it has corrected the top end issue I wasa having.
The Reflex is a excellent and getting better as it burns in. As I Said the Stageline is good but the Reflex beats it on pretty much all counts with better imaging, seperation and over all control from bass to high treble. It is also very quiet which is lovely especially during quiet passages of music.
The PSU1 is very good as a power supply but I was curious to see what if any difference the N**m power supply would make. The N**m is a high quality unit and provdes a stable output. I do think it is an improvement over the PSU1 but not as much a the price difference would suggest it is subtle but an improvement across the board.
The Reflex C is a great bit of kit and good value. The whole buying and customer experience has been exemplory too. The loan system and access to the manufacturer to patiently answer questions is unique.
