Hello, new member here. Also grateful user of the loan system & also soon to be new owner of an Accession M Star

My turntable is P6 & exact cart & been waiting patiently for the RD7. I think it’s out in July @ £450. RD5, which I presume is a replacement for the Exact, is out in June @ £295.

I’m invested in MM for the time being, so hopefully going to see how many carts I can audition at a local shop. Keen to hear the RD7 vs MP500, 2M, VM540ML etc.

Interested in others’ expectations &/or experiences with those other carts on Rega decks vs exact? Thanks

The ND7 looks to be pitched against the like of Nag 200 2m black

As soon as they are available I will be purchasing one - will report back soon

Yes, I’m v interested. Replaced my Exact cart about 6 months ago so that’s got a lot of life left in it.

Have you got one ordered?

Seen they’re available here:  https://www.hifigear.co.uk/rega-nd7-moving-magnet-cartridge.html - https://www.hifigear.co.uk/rega-nd7-moving-magnet-cartridge.html

I put the RigB AT540ML on my P6 because I didn't want to change my accession or get an elevator as well as a MC cartridge.
Once run in it is so much better than my old Exact. More detail, better separation, really musical feel and tracks really well.
It can show up poor pressings and even bad mastering as it feels much closer to what was intended. Now I do know its only a £340 cartridge not an Umami but its a real step up for a P6 so worth a try maybe.
I have started cycling through my albums again and a number of records have been traded because they don't sound nice whereas the Exact was a bit more forgiving.

Interesting. I have AT95ML on my P2 - it sounded good but it was in your face & accentuated noise & clicks from dirt/dust. Upgraded to P6 with exact & I was much happier with the chilled sound. Separation on the exact with my GS Accession is v good, but would be fun to hear the AT on this deck. I wish I had the time, money & inclination to test loads of cartridges at home.

The minor radius on the 95ML is about 3um and is one of the thinnest styli available on the market. The diamond on the Exact should be more like 8um. You'll need very clean records with any sort of ML/MR stylus which is why I don't recommend them to everyone.

Apropos of this - am just having my RP6 serviced + new Nd7 fitted - will report back when up and running. It'll be going through Accession MM (+ Enigma) > Elex-R > Kytes (brilliant little speakers BTW). In the meantime, have hooked up my old Dual 505-4 'Audiophile Concept' (w/new Ortofon 30 stylus on the Dual/Ortofon cart) via a s/h Gram Amp 2SE into the Elex-R/SE and have just indulged in an evening of vintage Art Farmer LPs - wonderful stuff, and may take a bit of beating by the RP6/Nd7/Accession TBH... Wink
