I've just ordered a Solo Intro headphone amp from one of the authorised retailers & was just wondering if anyone who owns one of these can recommend a CD player up to £600.

My present gear consists of a NAD C521 BEE CD player, a NAD C350 amp & a pair of Sennheiser 565 Ovation.

The amp sounds great through speakers but its headphone output quality is dire. I'm sure that the Solo will sort out this problem but  perhaps  it might  be  worthwhile upgrading the  CD  player to  one that's  a bit more refined. I also fear that the CD player's output might be too high for the Solo - turning the amp's volume control to 9 O'clock is enough to cause ringing in the ears for a fortnight.

I would recommend a used Meridian (507 or 508), or a new Exposure 2010s. Both sound superb with Solo + Sennheiser.

Attenuators fix the high output/no volume problem.  We use Rothwell ones - available on the Audio Elevation website or google if you want to buy from him direct.  Very handy for us with Melody valve amps which feature stepped attenuated volume control (only 2 resisters in play at any given volume).

There's a possibility we might take on the Roksan brand shortly.  If you're not in a hurry, I'll gladly let you know if it's any good (£650) when we get one in.
