My system has the Majestic balanced output feeding Proprius amps connected to Harbeth P3s and I had Jon modify the phono output to variable so that this feeds a pair of REL subs. There is a Minidsp in the line to the subs which has allowed me to integrate the subs using REW software measurements.
It sounds great to me.
I'm trying to get my head around whether there is any benefit from trying to introduce a high pass filter infront of the Proprious.  Measurements of the P3s show they drop off completely below 90Hz.  So if the Proprious are amplifying full range input is there 'wasted energy' and it would be better to remove (filter out)  input below 100Hz?
If there is be benefit, would a simple in line passive filter like the Shure A15HP work?

Agreed, the benefit would be increasing amp headroom by not putting power into the low frequencies the speakers are not reproducing. There is a potential downside as the high pass filter will introduce a phase delay above the crossover frequency but it may sound fine. Try it and see what you think Mike.

Cheers Jon, my thinking was along the same lines.  Might be worth trying to see if there's any audible difference.

In my experience the Proprius amps haven't run out of energy so your  may not need fixing. I've just looked up the Shure unit, it is a passive mic filter at £100 for a pair and unclear what the part(s) inside are. It may not be right for the impedances in your hifi and any extra amp wattage may be outweighed by a loss in sound quality.

I agree with Jon, if you hear an LF phase difference like I have it will "do your head in".

The 90Hz drop off suggests rising impedance and it won't "waste power".

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm in no rush to purchase any kind of filter and waste cash, so will do some more research and check out the options.
