I think there is a member on this forum that has one. The one I'm thinking of getting is Milty 3 version, the reviews have been mostly possitive but one reviewer did say that he couldn't get his to work, As anyone used it and have you got any tips on using it. Nearly all the reviewers said that the instructions it come's with are useless.

I have one and they work if you have a static build-up on a record.

I have an older red Milty gun I bought second hand. It does work, but you have to squeeze the trigger very slowly and release it very slowly for it to de-stat a record. Mine did come with instructions, but I cannot say if the instructions would work exactly the same way with the current model.

Typically I only need to hit the record in 2 different places to get the static to go away. I do this well away from the turntable, since doing it on the turntable near the cartridge can send noise through your system which can't be good for the equipment.

You can also remove your mat from the turntable and take it away from the stereo system, and then use the Milty on that.

Given the cost of the Milty now I might be looking at alternatives, but haven't tried any. With static electricity I still think it's best to deal with it at the source (control thermostat, humidity, etc) rather than rely solely on an anti-static gun.

After watching a few youtube videos I put my order in for one. It pays to shop around, I saw them as high as £70, I got it down to £55 with P&P, I lot of sites were saying free P&P but they were charging around £60, so much for free P&P. The site I bought it off were up front with their price and even put down the weight of the item and cost to post.

After having the Milty for over a year now, it's not had much use. In fact I've not used it at all this year and I can't remember the last time I did use it. I have mixed results with it. Whether this is down to me not using it right I don't know. I've had better results wet cleaning my records.

I had a similar experience Jon. Wet cleaning seemed to reduce static and dust built up.

Somewhere along the line I believe Milty stopped including good instructions with the gun. The design may have also changed making it less effective. IME my old red Milty absolutely does work, but it's not the first line of defense against static. I still use mine regularly but not every day.

My mate has the red one and he let me borrow it this week. I tried mine first on a new record and it didn't make any difference, then I tried my mates one and there was a big improvement, but static was still there. It does make me wonder if mine was working properly in the first place.

The way I use it is to hold the record well away from the turntable and the gun about 8-12 inches from the record. Then I slowly pull the trigger in a 3 step triangle pattern. Usually all of the static charge is easily removed this way. You can test it with a Styrofoam packing peanut and holding the record vertically. If the record is charged the peanut will stick. If not it will fall to the ground.

Thanks David. I agree about doing this well away from the turntable or other grounded equipment. That is a very good tip about testing the process on styrofoam, thank you.
