Hello everyone, I was wondering if any of you has tried the proprius / kef ls50 combo ? I’m about to order the Majestic and a pair of Proprius. From this, I was thinking waiting a year or two and then get one of the speakers the proprius were designed with (stirling LS3/5 or the Harbeths). Thing is, the KEF LS50 are at a bargain now, especially with sales that just begin in France : 549€, or 472£, for a new pair ! That’s cheap. I don’t have the possibility to listen to the combo so I’ll be happy to have some input from you. I have no doubt that the majestic/proprius is wonderful, however I don’t know anything about the LS50. Thanks ! |

I have used my Proprius amps with KEF coaxial speakers but not the LS50's. I have heard both the original LS50 and the new meta version, both were very good with clear sound and positioning of instruments and surprising bass weight from their small boxes. Yes they are good value and I would expect them to be great with the tremendous Proprius, which also comes in a small box! ------------- Jon Open mind and ears whilst owning GSP Genera, Accession M, Accession MC, Elevator EXP, Solo ULDE, Proprius amps, Cusat50 cables, Lautus digital cable, Spatia cables and links, and a Majestic DAC. |

I rate the LS50 very highly. I use one (non-Meta) as a centre channel speaker, in which role it is superb. Speech is very natural. I have the other one and have listened to them as a pair. IMO, the small Harbeths are better, but then they are several times this price. I thought they were superb value at the £600 I paid for a slightly-used pair, so this price new is a steal. I don't have proprius so I don't have experience of how they would sound with it. But my centre channel is driven just by a mid-range home cinema receiver with excellent results, and I'd expect the proprius to be a much better amp than that. |

I have a pair of (passive) LS50s in my study system and really like them. Currently they're driven by a venerable Audiolab 8000A but I've been meaning to swap this out for my Proprius pair (in the living room with some small PMC floorstanders) for some time - and this thread has nicely jogged my memory. I've had a pair of LSXs in my bedroom for some time and have really got into the KEF coaxial sound - so much so that my previously empty "wish list" now has the new floor standing LS60s on it to replace the PMCs . . . ------------- Bob Majestic DAC/pre-amp Accession MC/Enigma, Accession MM, Reflex M, Elevator EXP, Era Gold V Solo ULDE, Novo, Lautus USB and digital, Libran balanced, CuSat50 2 x Proprius + Spatia/Spatia Links |

Thanks to you all for your very valuable inputs ! I read some reviews on the web but I trust people here more :) I ordered the LS50's and I'll try them soon with the Maj/Proprius from the loan scheme. But I'm already 100% sure that I'll buy the combo next month since I love some much the GSP products I own. A brief review of the system is coming as soon as possible !

I had KEFs years ago and I regretted getting rid of them the build quality was 2nd to none and with the tweeters in the middle they were easy to set up, since them I have never got the tweeters at the right height, and your right Bob they do have that sound about them, I remember the ones I replaced them with had a more detailed sound but did lack a bit in the bass plus the build qualty was a step down or two. I just can't remember what model they were, it must over ten years ago when I got rid of them. ------------- Reflex M, Solo (both with PSU-1) CuSat50, Lautus, Spatia & Spatia links cables. I got a second hand pair of LS50 metas about six months ago and they work very well with my Proprius amps. ------------- Jon Open mind and ears whilst owning GSP Genera, Accession M, Accession MC, Elevator EXP, Solo ULDE, Proprius amps, Cusat50 cables, Lautus digital cable, Spatia cables and links, and a Majestic DAC. |
