Good afternoon, I am thinning out my album collection (based mainly on number of times played recently) to make room in my boxes for albums purchased this year. Some have been played only 4/5 times, the B B King album is new but he manages to make contact with the mic a couple of times with his mouth which may not bother some. Practically all have been ultrasonically cleaned. I am really only looking to sell to people who are local to me to avoid postage etc, not looking for much money but I'd sooner give them to charity than entertain the insult offers from certain record shops. Location is Marton, Middlesbrough TS7 8RR.

Hi David
That Aimee Mann LP (of which I've also got a copy) should be going for big bucks - see e.g. https://www.discogs.com/release/1259595-Aimee-Mann-Bachelor-No-2-OrLast-Remains-Of-The-Dodo - https://www.discogs.com/release/1259595-Aimee-Mann-Bachelor-No-2-OrLast-Remains-Of-The-Dodo . Ditto (I suspect) your other Mobile Fidelity discs. Worth setting up a Discogs seller account to flog 'em?

Thanks very much for the info on Aimee Mann etc but I'm not interested in setting up online accounts on Discogs etc too much hassle for me, just looking to sell to Forum members, cheers.

David I agree with you, Some offers I have had from second hand record shops have been to say the lest poor and have ended up giving them to a charity shop that I know sells vinyl, This way I know the charity is getting all the money, I do the same with my old HiFi

Absolutely agree - and am somewhat shamefaced about appearing so gung-ho re selling stuff on the forum or elsewhere. Anyone on here punting for Bachelor No.2 will be getting a superb record (Aimee's 2nd-best LP IMLTHO) in an equally superb recording.
At the same time, I think it is worth noting that if any of David's LPs do end up going to charity shops, they should ideally go to ones that know their current market value (e.g. around £200 or more for Bachelor No.2, allegedly) and are able to maximise that to benefit their charities - probably by selling them on Discogs!

A mate of mine bought a record from a charity some years ago and found out it was worth a lot more than the few £s he paid for it, He did the right thing and went back to give them some of the difference saying he felt like he had ripped them off. I don't think many would have done that. To me good on him.

Thanks for the information everyone, the Alison Kraus, B B King, Tuck & Patti and Robert Cray albums are sold. The name of a charity that is street wise on vinyl values would be useful.

David CLIC Sargent in Bristol, they are a charity that support children with cancer. If you go on the Long Live Vinyl (It's a Mag) website they do a guide on charity shops that sell records. Oxfam also take vinyl records

I know that Oxfam and British Heart Foundation have specialist music stores around the country (worth Googling ' x Music Shop' - where 'x' is the name of a charity - for contact details) - and I'm sure there are others. BHF used to have a great music store in Brighton which made loads of money for the cause - unfortunately it closed due to redevelopment...
For a heartwarming story about such things, this takes some beating: https://thevinylfactory.com/news/record-worth-2000-found-charity-shop/ - https://thevinylfactory.com/news/record-worth-2000-found-charity-shop/

Oxfam also has a central online music store - I see that a Mobile Fidelity Dark Side of the Moon is currently on there for £200: https://onlineshop.oxfam.org.uk/dark-side-of-the-moon-first-mobile-fidelity-pressing/product/HD_300455412?sku=HD_300455412 - https://onlineshop.oxfam.org.uk/dark-side-of-the-moon-first-mobile-fidelity-pressing/product/HD_300455412?sku=HD_300455412
Out-of-print MoFi vinyl always seems to command premium prices - perhaps unsurprisingly. Ditto their SACDs.

British Heart Foundation Today I sent off by free post some unwanted Vinyl and it was vary easy. Just go on their website and give them your name and Email address and they send you an Email with their postal address for you to print off, you stick it on your box and take it to your local pick up point which you can also find on their website. They have five dedicated shops that sell vinyl and CDs in this country and they have dedicated experts volunteers to make sure they get the right price for all that they get

I'm a bit reluctant to support some charities after the recent abuse their staff did in places like Haiti, and their management fees/expensive HQ's in London. A lot of charities unfortunately pay their execs a lot.
Try selling them on Facebook marketplace(free) & giving it to someone with small overheads? Shelterbox are a stunning charity, low overheads, mainly volunteers (Rotary Network of clubs) & what they do is fantastic.

I don't normally give to big charities but on this occasion I know that the BHF have experts to price vinyl and have record shops to sell vinyl. I normally give to St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth, When a mate had cancer he said the staff really looked after him and couldn't fault them. Plus it's a local charity.
