This could prove interesting so I thought I would share the information gleaned during my research...

In short, the real AKG are no more as Samsung bought them out, sacked the designers and closed Vienna. Apparently a brand name is more valuable than the people who made it something credible!

A group of ex-AKG staff (30 or so) have now started up Austrian Audio to bring back the "Austrian sound" and are aimed at the professional market. They have a few models coming out later this year/next, so this could be worth looking at.
