Hi Folks

Thinking of tinkering with interconnects.

I have a tricked up LP12 playing through a Revelation M.
Amp is an Arcam AVR850.
Needs to be 1m long.
Not ideal placement of components or power/interconnect cables.
It’s an AV system so there’s centre speaker at the top of the rack
With a surge protected mains bar sat behind it.
The TT PSU & Rev M are sat on top of the rack directly above the centre speaker & mains bar 😱
Above that is a wall shelf for the TT.
I’d post a pic but not sure how to do it on this site.

Sooo, my question is: which GS interconnect would be best from the Rev M to the amp, baring in mind it’s gonna have to cross a lot of mains power & big magnets.

Currently using Chord Chorus twisted pair interconnects.

Would be interested in trying out a loan pair.

What do you reckon guys?

Contact Jon (aka Fatmangolf) and arrange to try some.
There's 3 different flavours in the cable section at the top of the web page, and he might be able to send all 3.

When you try the Lautus try and keep the "bulges" away from big magnets. It is 1.5m so should be sufficiently long enough to navigate the assault course Wink

What do you mean by the bulges in the cable Graham?

Gotta hope an AV speaker has some screening in there.
Bet it hasn’t though.
I may add some car type bitumen with thick foil sound deadening to the cabinet.
Adds mass and to my mind gives it a bit of a Faraday Cage effect from the foil.  Dunno if it would have any effect on the magnetic fields though??

The bulges Graham referred to in the Lautus will be the ferrite filters.Smile
I use a 1.5m Lautus analogue interconnect crossing mains cables etc & have no noise problem.
Nor with the CuSat50 either.

If your interconnects must cross power cables, try to do so at right angles or increase the air gap using a bath sponge or something similar to give a few inches of clearance.
Aside from speakers (and I doubt bitumen & foil will help) transformers in CD/DVD players and amplifiers are also sources of magnetic fields.
Again, air gaps are your friend in reducing their effects.

Hmm. Guess I’m screwed then.
Got a huge 7 channel amp, BLU-RAY, CD, TiVo, TT PSU & Rev M
With PSU1.
Magnets & power EVERYWHERE! All cables platted & squished together behind the cabinet.

May be trying to polish a 💩 here.

That being said, I don’t notice any noise.
None of my interconnects are cheapies. Mostly Chord mid to high end.

It's doubtful that you're screwed.
Crossing interconnects at rt angles to mains cables is a good idea if you have the room.
I don't have the room to dress cables in this ideal way but don't really notice any noise
with Lautus running close to mains cables, regenerator etc.
As said - try a demo.Wink

Sorry, I did not intend to dis-hearten you by presenting best practice ideals.
Most systems will fall short in practise.
The extra length of the Lautus may allow some additional clearance in routing.
In my own experience, having tested Lautus in particular against a number of more expensive and well respected and reviewed cables in my collection, I preferred the Lautus for its sonic attributes and have since replaced all my interconnects with GSP products excepting only my tonearm cables.
Do give them a try, you may also like what they bring.

I shall ask for a lend. My current pair of Chord Chorus are pretty jolly good tho so the bar is high! 😬

Gauntlet down Graham!

It's not a duel, it's about letting you hear differences, if any, and you choose (if you wish) which is preferable to you. I accept I will not always win, but facilitate the ability to compare for those who are interested.

A most eloquent reply.

Wish I had Graham’s turn of phrase.

Thank you. I wasn't always so good at this, but since leaving 'comprehensive education' I've had 48 years to try and get it right...

Almost there? Wink

I replaced the interconnects between the Majestic to amp and Reflex M to Majestic with Cusat50 and had instant success. Especially the bass now is more dramatic and goes deeper like almost sub territory. My old cables were of very good quality though. Price/performance ratio is top notch! Graham makes good stuff! Clap

They are the best phono leads I have heard. One of my work colleagues replaced the phono leads on his Thorens TD160 with Cusat50's and was delighted.

So I took up the offer of a loan of a pair of Lautus cables.
Sounded different immediately but I wasn’t sure if I liked it at first.
The existing cables were top of the tree Chord Chorus Reference.
The twisted twin core silver jobbies.
£300 second hand!
Best I’ve ever heard.

Re took the Pepsi challenge today & swapped the cables from the Rev M for or five times.

The consensus is that the Lautus is the winner.
Actually sounds louder as if I’d turn the volume up a couple of notches!

I will be ordering a pair ASAP!

Hi  Music Dude.
From the picture looks like you put a foam slab under the Reflex M.
Any sonic reason to do that?

If you use the "quote" or "reply" link to reply to a post you will see a picture of a tree in the menu above. Click on it and you will get a window which lets you browse to an image on your computer, then you can upload it into your images space provided it is no larger than 150 KB. You can see it in the preview window before you click OK. If larger than 150 KB you will need to edit it in a photo editor to make the image resolution smaller. Jpegs are also better IMO.

Originally I put the foam under the Reflex M to give it a more stable stance because the cables I used before had the tendency to shift the Reflex. If it dampens the vibrations, if there are any introduced from a preamp with metal case where the Reflex is standing on, it might. Since the floor in the basement is concrete there are no vibrations from the floor. Maybe I should try some foam under the Majestic? Wink
