I do have an all Cyrus setup, except that the CD dAD3 has been defective/repaired several times (skipping badly from halfway CD playtime). Cry
I bought a Marantz CD5001 more than a year ago, which sounds very good overall.
But when I reconnected my dAD3 again a few weeks ago, I came to the conclusion that I needed?, no wanted a Cyrus CDplayer again, so ............... here it is.

I just ordered/bought a model2008/x-demo/reprocessed Cyrus CD8SE at an official Cyrusdealer/Hifi shop in GB.
Due to the favourable exchangerate GBP>EURO and incl. shipping/insurance, it will cost me about half the price of a new one here in the Netherlands. Wink

I read everywhere that they sound very good but there have been/still are some loadingproblems with these SE models.
Because this is one of a number of reprocessed players (been back to Cyrus for softwareupdates etc...) I hope everything will work sufficiently. Smile
To be a little more sure, I did ask if they would check it out before shipment to me.
It's in the demoroom now for a few days to play CD's. So hopefully...............................

I'll let you know more after................. Have fun. Han

I'm very happy with the loading/reading Shocked and soundquality of my CD8SE.
It's connected to be powered with a Supra LoRad PC.
It's connected to my Cyrus integr.amp with an "unscreened" DNM/Reson TCC75.

It's working OK for a few days now, only will not play my PF/DSOTM SACD's CD layer.

The sound is very surprising to me and so detailed, open, clear but still warm sounding. Smile
It has the same sort of effect/experience on me when I went from 'n integrated MM phonoamp to GSP EraGold/PSU.
I didn't know there was so much live, detail, openess, warmth, lows, real voices, etc possible to be heared from a CDplayer. Clap

It's playing in my room/speaker setup now, for that's my favourite listeningplace.
Not being such a headfi addict, I will still try my SoloMC/PSU1(from 2005) in direct mode.
Have fun Han

Man, it sure looks like a very nice unit. Currently I have been eyeing a older Meridian cd-player. Specifically the 506.24 like: http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1237268182&/Meridian-506.24-classic--tank - http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1237268182&/Meridian-506.24-classic--tank -

What do you think?

Sorry again Miguel, I have no personal experience with any Meridians. Cry
And to tell you from third hand what's on the net, is not my way.

I do know that Marantz CD5001 Smile sounds very good for the money.
And also that "in general" for CD(-R)'s a dedicated CDplayer outperforms the generalist-players within the same pricebracket.

Succes with your queste to get your best price/quality CDplayer Wink
Have fun Han

Not really anything to do with your Cyrus CDP Han, but might be of interest, don't know.

I have owned an Esound E5 Signature for around 2 1/2 years and to me, while it sounded pretty good, it did not seem to live up to the glowing reports I had seen of it.

Now it may be that I am slow on the uptake and everybody else knows this stuff, but while I have paid attention to fitting vibration absorbers under my valve amp and tube rings to reduce microphonics and paid fair attention to turntable supports etc, I had never considered putting anything under a CDP, I had read of such things and sort of put them in the "hmm maybe" basket.

In the course of yet another cable comparison trial as a result of a conversation with an amp builder recently, I followed a whim and fitted a set of foculpods (20GBP inc postage) under my CDP (I had these to hand for a trial under a Technics SL1200 yet to be done).

The effect was rather surprising (to me at least) - the player now exhibited the characteristics that had been described in the glowing reports.  Deep and powerful bass foundation, a full liquid midrange that I had never heard in my system other than from vinyl, improved "focus" and soundstage/imaging and a very definite "boogie" factor - the improvement was such that had it been the result of an upgrade I would have been well pleased.

What I would add is that the maximum improvement came with additional mass on top of the player - this is in line with the foculpod recommended loading of 5kg per pod, a total of 20kg - my player is 14kg and I set a tuner weighing around 6kg on top.

Being thrilled with this result, I did a little more research and discovered a deal of discussion of vibrapods, a similar product but differing in that it is available in a range of load bearing capacities and can be further enhanced with cones on top.

I purchased a set of the appropriate rating and a set of cones from a local dealer and the effects previously noticed were retained and in some aspects enhanced.

Again, not an expensive product, with a remarkable effect if my experience is anything to go by, I have been rediscovering CD's for days now.

Strutting it's stuff now with FritzS recommendation Cyminology "Bemun" - have yet to give it a severe flogging with heavy orchestral which will be the "acid test" but have yet to see any downside to this "tweak".

There is a review on 6moons for anyone interested.

Well, I still would love to get a Cyrus cd-player but in the USA they want over $2,400 for a new unit. Will keep on looking for an used one, even a CD8X.

Sorry Tony, Miguel, just lost a long text before sending, so.....I won't do it again.
Fine the CD's are rediscovered all over again, Tony.
Seems the CD6se betters the 8x in some ways (warmer sound), Miguel.
Nhf right now, Han

I currently have an 8se.  I have just ordered a XTse which is the transport from Cyrus to go with the Cyrus DacX that I have.

I am looking forward to seeing whether there are differences in the sound.  After all the only difference between them is the internal DAC in the 8se.

...... and that's my opinion, take or leave it
