Hello All,

I am new to the forum and was steered this way to Graham's site and products from another UK person who works with turntables and cartridges/stylus.

I am in the process of upgrading my phono pre amps and am looking forward to learning from everyone on here.

I am on a few other forums, but this to me seems to be more friendly and geared almost family like with the atmosphere.

Again, looking forward to meeting and learning a few people and things.

Jim

Hi All,
I am cleaning up and rebuilding my computer today.
If I do not respond so quickly, it may be that I haven't got it up and running yet.
I just got on now to check messages and such while the computer is in pieces on the table.
(Also, I am testing the circuit functions inside.)
 Be back soon!Wink

Hi All,
I'm Mike, new to Forum today as I've decided its time to do some changes in the system.
I'm a fan of dynamics and fully extended bass, precision imaging and the ever elusive
psycho-acoustic-holographic effect.  (Sound familiar?)

Turntable is Michell Orbe SE.  SME-V arm and Benz Micro Glider SM.
Have been really happy with all this.

My old amp (Pass X350 gen1) and pre-amp (Spectral DMC-20) are going away since I've been auditioning newer equipment that seems like it will be refreshing change and also consumes way less electricity. So I'm trying out the Benchmark Amp and DAC3 with pre-amp.  Hence the need for a new phono-pre.

Speakers are Dunlavy SC-V.

In the past I've done a lot of home brew, from cables to power supplies and other tweaks.
Looking forward to reviving some of these activities also.   Thinking about rebuilding the
Dunlavy crossovers with superior components next.

"Speakers are Dunlavy SC-V."

Those are some very impressive speakers!
I just read their specs and the design theory of acoustic phase alignment.
They must have very rich bass response, too.
These babies are very much worth refurbishing the crossovers.

Too bad Dunlavy Audio Labs went out of business in 2002.

That turnatable and those speakers deserve something really great. Get a loan of the Accession phono pre and I’m sure you’ll be impressed!

Hi all, I am a newbie so please be kind!!! At present I have 3 GS headphone amps. The Voyager was my first purchase (was using a USB DAC - non GS) but wanted a volume knob!!!! Well I was that impressed I bought a Novo for my bedroom set up and a Solo SRG ii for my main (mostly N##M) set up. Both have PSU 1 power supplies!!! I am now in the process of getting a Slee interconnect for my Solo...... Think I may need to purchase a Din Breakout cable first!!!!

Finally a big shout out to John Cadman who has been really helpful about me recent and future purchases.... Really grest customer service!!! Nice one.... Smile

I never had that model but had another Rega fono that sounded a little dull and rolled off. Not awful but not what I generally prefer. By contrast the Reflex M is a much more engaging listen. I think a home audition would be the way to go if you want to hear the difference between some GS phono preamps and what you currently have.

What cartridge are you using right now, out of curiosity?

Hi,
No experience of the Rega but when you mention 'laid back' it recalls the nice but slightly soft & woolly
EAR valve unit that preceded an Era Gold V. The EGV had much better 'attack' & involvement.
The Reflex adds a tad more clarity & insight.

I’ve not used the Fono at home, but when I was auditioning for a new turntable I heard it through the Rega Aria, then through my own Reflex M I’d taken along to the shop. The Reflex M was more open with more detail. It wasn’t “harsh” or “bright” though, just more musically involving for me and gave more intellectual information, too.
Mick.

Hello all

New Newbi here!

Suspect Ive been on a similar journey to most here, months of reading opinions on forums and internet 'expert' reviews, getting totally confused, going down expensive blind allys buying phono stages from the internet and being frankly a bit dissapointed by the results!

then the peny dropped, Need to stop messing about and listen to these amps before I buy one, after all thats what I did when I brought my system......So how do I do that..my local hi fi shop doesnt really carry much stock, just the usual Rega and P******t offerings. I could buy on the internet and send them back if not what I want, but frankly thats a lot of hastle (I have a day job!) and means a depleted bank account for some time until refunds are forthcomming ...

Then, like a beam of sunlight shining on the hi fi budah's polished forhead (hes the hi fi budah so he has headphones and a turntable!), the Graham slee loaner, very exited cant wait!!

Just to add, I followed the same route, using the loaner programme to try out the Reflex M against the Rega Fono I was using at the time - it was a no brainer, the Reflex M was just so much more musical and transparent...

So as always, the best advice is to stop fixating on the reviews (and I do it all the time) and just listen and see what you like... as I think Graham once mentioned, try something new in your system for a while then take it out and see if you miss it... then you'll know whether it's worth the investment or not.

Lucky for us that the loaner programme allows us to do just that - fantastic customer service.

Hi All
I am new to the forum. Have always had a very keen interest in hifi and ofcourse music too, though I am not technically knowledgeable, so rely a lot on the advice of others, magazine reviews etc. My system consists of mostly naim gear, supernait 3, ndx2, cd5si, PMC twenty5 23 speakers and a Marantz tts1 turntable and some Russ Andrews power conditioning. I am really looking to get more performance out of my tt and so my search for a quality phono stage has led me here! The inbuilt phono stage on the supernait is half decent but I feel this is the bottle neck at the moment. Have been looking at the Accension but any advice would be most welcome! The cartridge on the Marantz is a clearaudio virtuoso mm. There could be a possible tt upgrade in the near future but if the phono stage upgrade unleashes a lot more performance then I may well leave that for a while longer. Thanks in advance for any help and happy new year to you all!
Regards
Simon

welcome Simon and happy new year.
Not sure on the Naim phono, on how good it is but the Accension is one vary good phono amp indeed and I would say it would far out do the naim built in one and will say if you try it on the loan system I think you would be buying a turntable up grade or at lest a up grade on the stylus. Has you can see I have Reflex M and I'm using a Ortofon 2m Bronze and to me I need a turntable up grade to do it justice and that it something I'm saving up for.
