Looks very good value are they uk or similar pressings?

The grace Jones album is one of the most dynamic albums I own -I added to the original when was first released too 180gm version 4 or 5 years ago. Try 'art groupie' immensely powerful.

....is there any scope to introduce a GSP phono stage - I can see there is a budget brand/model on there already?

I recently  had a splurge on there with some bargains that I spotted to late to post about, or was to embarrassed to admit buying the Rod Stewart box set for £35.

For those that don't know this is Universal Music's vinyl store and some of the items on there are the Back to Black range. Not an analogue masters label but good quality pressings with original cover artworks.

I am just listening to Art Blakey and the Jazz messengers' Caravan which I got on the 2 for £15 pound offer.

Embarrassed Just noticed the 25th Anniversary edition of Bonnie Raitt's Nick of Time is actually from the original analogue master tapes.

There was nearly a full page interview with the guy doing those Abbey Road remasters in the Independant today. The main paper too...not one of the supplements. I'm tempted, but prices put them in the same ballpark as a 70's near mint, though I've also seen original Island copies on sale for a lot more. Either way it's an album I want, though I do have a decent CD copy.

I've often wondered about the pro's & cons - 40 year old vinyl that was mastered from new tapes or remasters from restored 40 year old tapes? Usually I'd go for the first option but with some albums the cost gets silly, so I'm glad these reissues/ remasters are around.

If makes a difference check out the below link from Analogue Planet where there has been some discussion between Miles Showel at Abbey Road about the half speed matering and why he doesn't use the original analogue tapes.

BEWARE of these "Abbey Road" half speed mastered albums, they are mainly taken from digital sources and may not sound as good as one would expect...I'm waiting until they're released before deciding

I am in a bit of a quandary at the moment as the Roxy Music box set is on offer but MF's review was that it was patchy and it started of the discussion about words files. Since I have none of them (may have Avalon) it may not be an issue.

I was given the Roxy Music box set for Christmas. Much as I appreciate the gift and thought I am very underwhelmed by the poor quality offered.
The only half decent lp in the set is Avalon which I already have an original copy of. The original is far superior.
I think it's just Universal trying to cash in on the vinyl resurgence. The quality of the pressings are awful, clicks, pops, general surface noise etc. They have no doubt attempted to maximise profits by using some 2nd rate pressing company in Eastern Europe.
The sound quality is as though there is a veil in front of the music, these have been digitally vandalised to within an micron of their musical life!
Of course the above is only my opinion.
Oh yes, the outer sleeves have been made too small as well.
Half speed mastered, Abbey Road, 180g vinyl, sales hype? Check out some of the reviews on amazon.UK.
It's not really surprising there is currently a "special offer"!

Here's a recent newcomer to the vinyl market claiming to use the original analogue tapes

http://www.vinyl180.com/acatalog/store.html - http://www.vinyl180.com/acatalog/store.html

Can't vouch for the quality as I haven't bought anything from their catalogue yet.
