Lemmy front man of Motorhead and ex-Hawkwind (sang "Silver Machine") dies 3 days after being diagnosed with aggressive cancer on "Boxing Day".
Ian Kilmister (real name) was heavily into sex, drugs and rock'n'roll according to the news reports, and was always lighting a (shop-bought) ciggy.
Not bad then for reaching 70!

I always thought he was preserved in alcohol and hence immortal.

Yeah a great shame. I do remember thinking he looked pretty ill at Glasto earlier this year, not quite the seemingly indestructible Lemmy of legend.
I was never particularly a fan of Motorhead but I always have had a soft spot for people who live the lifestyle for real and I think he was one such, and imo Ace of Spades is as great a piece of nitro fuelled rock as you'll ever hear. I used to see him hanging out quite regularly at the St Moritz club in Wardour St in the 80's feeding the one armed bandit all night & drinking JD. Seemed a friendly & funny guy as long as people didn't bug him too much, no rock star airs and graces.
RIP.
