Over the past decades there have been your Rega's, your Linn's who have both been the "must have" turntable at various points in time.
is it's the Technics SL-12xx turn?
It's very popular at the moment with more "audiophiles" admitting using one, which they wouldn't have 5-10 years ago.
I find alot of online buzz about the sl-12xx, more mods aimed at the hifi market and Hifi mags have started to take interest.
of coarse this is all good, or is it just in vogue, to own the Technics Sl-12xx

It may be the vogue now but it was the broadcasters deck then. This is the reason I bought one for myself. Since then I've been quite amazed as to how well it performs musically, but it does have shortcomings if used with cartridges having poor shielding (or is it the fault of the cartridge?)

I'd be interested in knowing which cartridges you have used? and thoughts?
I did use a high output denon DL-160, but I'm wasn't sure about the timing, but I'm not sure of any high output moving coil, they all sounds a bit off timing wise to me.
I'm now running a denon DL-304.... there is some slight hum, but to be fair the system has to be turned up loud with no record spinning to hear it. It's a moving coil so it's to be expected, my single coiled guitar has hum and thats just part off the charm! ain't it?
how many times have we heard a recording where the guitarists amp is humming during a quiet passage, and thought wow?
