Subject: Records for sale!

As some of you will know I was forced to sell my beloved Linn LP 12 turntable because, being in a wheelchair, I am unable to turn my records etc. As a result I have a collection of records that I am also forced to dispose of. The following list, which range from the 1960s through to the 1990s are for the most part in excellent condition and are what is left of the collection after I have disposed of approximately 100 discs to friends etc.

It is now my intention to offer the remainder to forum members before advertising them elsewhere. Any reasonable offers will be considered, prices depending upon the number of records required. Unfortunately I will need to add postage to the cost of the record/records. I am also willing to consider an offer for the whole collection should somebody want them and be willing to collect. There are some real bargains to be had! If anybody wants to purchase any of the records please send me a private message.

As you will note the list includes records in a variety of genres. On the classical album list I have abbreviated the orchestra names for brevity's sake but have included the name of the conductors and soloists.

As you may recall I have over the past year so been selling my old record collection due to the fact that I'm no longer able to play records. I have been a little tardy in posting the remaining albums. However, the following are the last ones I have left. If anyone is interested please send a PM. I am letting go for £3 each (per disc) plus postage. After that if anybody would like to make me an offer for any that are left I am open to offers. Most of them, as others will testify, are in good condition.

Thank you, Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, you are welcome to have all the records that you want except (as Bob has said) the Ravel. The Jackson C Frank is the original 1965 Colombia, mono, version produced by Paul Simon. I hadn't realised that it had any rarity value (although this may be true of a number of the albums I used to have in my collection). I have just checked it visually and I have noted that it is well played and unfortunately has one or two marks on it. I am unable check the record by playing it so I can't vouch for the fact that there won't be some clicks on it. Perhaps a good clean may be a good idea. I want to reassure you that this is unusual. My records are normally, as others will tell you, well looked after and in good condition. This record used to be a firm favourite of my friends and I when it first came out, and it may have been passed around. The song 'Blues Runs the Game' had a prominent place in my repertoire when I used to sing in the folk clubs back in the 60s.  If after what I've said, you are still happy to have it  I will be glad to send it to you with the rest. If it does prove to be in bad condition then you are welcome to return it and I will let you have your money back. Just let me know what you want to do.

I will contact you shortly with a PM to let you have my details.

Phil

Hi Phil,
I had a look at your list when I first joined this forum a couple of months ago but looking at the dates I assumed that you had probably sold them all by now.  Hoping I can scoop out a good sized helping of folky goodness from your collection, I am interested in the following titles:

Fairport Convention – Liege & Lief
Ian Campbell with Dave Swarbrick – Ian Campbell folk group
Martin Carthy – Martin Carthy
Ralph McTell – Spiral Staircase
Ralph McTell – My Side of your Window
Kathryn Tickell – Kathryn Tickle Band
Silly Wizard – So Many Partings

If they are still available could you please drop me a PM and I will sort out sending payment.  Typically I spent too long deciding what I wanted and Jeremy beat me to most of the Carthy albums LOL

Thank you Phil, so nice to hear how important that LP has been to you. I was pointed to Frank in the early 90s because he left his mark on other people we venerated, not least Nick Drake and Sandy Denny. The album was basically impossible to find then - there had been a reissue is the 70s but nothing since - but my friend somehow got one and I got a tape and fell in love with it (Paul Simon's best work if you ask me ). Eventually I tracked down a copy of the B&C reissue, and some time after that there was finally a CD issue with other goodies. That's when his reputation spread again, and as a result the Columbia record is now quite sought-after, and rightly so given his central role in the London folk scene back in the 60s.
I'd be more than grateful for your copy and I'm sure it will play well enough. It would mean all the more to know it had inspired you, but do think more about whether you'd rather eBay it. If not then, well, happy me, and I will also send you a CD reissue to take you back a few years (it has some beautiful later songs too).
Cheers, Jeremy

Hi IntempestaNocte!

Just a quick line to say that all of these are still available. I'm sorry I don't know your name (other than your forum name) so if you want you could PM me and give me your details.

I must also apologise to all of you who have expressed an interest in buying some LPs that I haven't got back to you individually yet. This is because I rely on my wife to help me sort everything out. it will be her that sorts out the records, packs them, and goes to the post office to find out what the postage will be et cetera. I will be contacting each one of you as soon as possible.

Phil

That's okay Phil. The LP's you sold me at the GSP northern roadshow were in excellent condition and very good performances. I am happy to wait for some more and will wait for a PM. Best wishes to you both.

I'm in no rush, no need to worry.  I am currently stuck in a perpetual loop of failing to get around to cleaning my record collection so I've got loads of stuff to listen through once I manage to get started, not to mention the backlog of new stuff I haven't found time to listen too yet.  Someone as disorganised as me will never mind waiting for other people.

Shortly after signing up to this forum I copied Jon and a couple of others and stuck my name in my sig to save people from having to type out my forum name / look my profile up.  Though I'm not overly fond of it and prefer not to use it online.

I will send you a PM with my details so you have got them for when you need them.

And what's this about a northern roadshow?

Yes, I do have a box of records still left if anyone is interested? I will, however, need a few days to make an up-to-date list of those that are still available.

Hi Bob,

All the records that you wanted are yours. I will let you know as soon as they are packed and ready to be posted.

I have just discovered that in the 'Hot Club of France' case there was a second record called 'Django Reinhardt – Europe's Greatest Contribution To Jazz (1964)'. Both records are visually in excellent condition. I think I must have bought the Django Reinhardt one in a sale and put it in the Hot Club Of France case because it didn't have one of its own. You are welcome to it at no cost if you want.

I'm really sorry the records are still for sale if you want them but I have been suffering from computer problems and haven't been able to get on the forum. Unfortunately my computer is going into the Apple store in Sheffield to be looked at on Monday and may be there for a week or so. Can you PM me with your details within the next day or two and I will try and contact you off-line.

Again, my sincere apologies

Phil
