I'm contemplating changing my Cyrus CLS70 speakers, for something with a greater dynamic range. I think that they could be the weak link in my system, and I am contemplating floor standing speakers again.
What do you guys use for stereo speakers, and what do you fancy trying?

That's a big question. Budget, room size and amps are all significant factors. Auditioning is essential, but you know that! I've always liked the Tannoy floorstanders, their co-axial drivers give really good imaging.
------------- Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.

I know it's a broad question, but I am looking to see what people use, and fancy in the hope that it points me to a few ideas of speakers I have not thought of or considered.

Harbeth M30. I would only change for M30.1 or SHL 5.
The manufacturers site and google will quickly give you an outline.
If I had funds for Slee DAC, amps and cables, they would sound even better. Satisfying results are obtainable with more modest equipment.
Before this. I used Harbeth DPM 1.
Good luck

I have a small room that requires the speakers being quite close to the wall. After 4 years searching and trying many speaker and stand combinations, I finally found a front-ported speaker that is three way and a compact stand -mounter and can be single, bi and tri-wired and even bi-amped! A fabulous sound for a small speaker with the added bonus that the grilles are in-built so no damage from kids or visitors. It is the linn Majik 109 and very well priced at 985 GBP. Combined with my Naim gear and Graham's wonderful Solo-Ultra Linear and Bitzie, it is a special all-British combination! Happy hunting!

I have Quad 2905s, where the road of speaker wanderlust has come to an abrupt end.
However, extreme dynamic range isn't my thing. If I wanted louder I'd have to accept that it would come at a large cost of the things that ESLs do very well. I'd probably start by listening to ATC and B&W.

My living room system has PMC Gb1i floorstanders superbly driven by a pair of Proprius amps (with Spatia cabling), and I've a pair of Harbeth DPM1Pro active speakers with a Majestic DAC "pre-amp" in the study.

I have Monitor Audio GX100's which I have rewired with Spatia link cable. £24 very well spent as it tamed the silver sheen so the ribbon tweeters sound even better.
The GX100's are on second hand Partington Dreadnought stands and I have a REL Q400 subwoofer to fill in the really low stuff.
Powered by GSP Proprius amps which are simply sublime.

These test results may be of interest if you also have MA GX100's:

I found they went lower than expected when I was blending in my subwoofer. I had expected a fast drop off as the reflex contribution dropped away, i.e. -24dB/octave. They seem to go lower and these curves suggest the 42Hz bottom end is -10dB, perhaps the upper end of 60kHz is also. The latter would require the help of a young bat with good hearing...
I can only guess how my speakers would test after swapping out the silver-plated internal wiring and links for Spatia hookup wire. They are less trebly on or just off axis, and they sound better to me.
