I just read of how old Playstation videogame consoles are apparently now being used as HiFi CD-players by some audiophiles. The units used are the very first ones sold which were equipped with analog audio RCA out.
As CD players they're now reputed by many to sound exceptionally clean and neutral, even compared with expensive real HiFi players, and the best part is you can typically find them in thrift shops for next to nothing, being an almost 20 years old gaming device they're more than ancient by now.
So has anyone here perchance tried it? Or perhaps has got a unit stoved away in their attic? Should be fun at least to try but it must be the very earliest edition of the console.

Here's a review I found on this: http://www.stereophile.com/cdplayers/708play/ - http://www.stereophile.com/cdplayers/708play/

Wow, I have a Playstation (1) and a PS2 in the loft. They are actually partly the reason that I want to purchase a Voyager from Graham. Sounds interesting indeed. My love for video game soundtracks is what brought me here in the first place.

Oh wow, I'm already starting to think about more ideas. This is going to be great! >_<

This only regards the very first Playstation consoles sold in the mid 90's as far as I understand. A few years later they stopped having the RCA jacks on the back.
They should have product codes SCPH 1000, 1001 or 1002 depending on location/market.
