Hello,
Recently, I've been researching earphones again and like I did many months ago, I keep returning to the Etymotic ER-4PT and ER-4S in-ear monitors as my solution for portable audio. I still stand by the Sennheiser HD250 Linear II as my main reference headphone; it is fantastic! However, it's rather large to take with me if I were to go travelling abroad. Does anyone here have any experience with the ER4 series? Graham??? I'm beginning to get the impression that these earphones perform at the same audio standard as both the HD250II and the HD800, but in a much smaller product. I'm also curious how well they would perform with a Graham Slee Voyager or Bitzie...
Anyone able to add anything on this topic??

I have owned the ER4P, ER4S and currently the HF5. Of the three the ER4S were my favorite but if you can buy the HF5 on sale (I did for under $75) and if you have an iPhone then you would be in for a treat since they have a built in microphone with a switch that defeats the music so you can answer a call. There are other options like the Westone 2 or 3 which if you plan on sleeping (or at least laying your head on a pillow) are a better option since they lie flat.

I also predict that I will like the ER-4S the most, as it is the most accurate variant. However, it doesn't seem to be manufactured anymore... O__o or am I missing something? Now, it seems you have to buy a ER-4PT and an adaptor cable if you want to experience the ER-4S frequency response. Whilst I'd like to try out a HD800 someday, the HD250 and ER-4PT/ER-4S are the only transducers I'd ever be willing to buy (price-wise). I shall see about trying out either of these ER4 IEMs. I might find myself using them even more than the HD250. It would also be nice to have a second reference transducer alongside the HD250.
