Does anyone here use the wood glue cleaning method on their vinyl? If so, how well does it work?

Have a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gyvipBs6Vs&feature=youtube_gdata_player - here.
A mate of mine used PVA glue successfully for quite a time. Then the brand of glue he used must have changed its formulation. The set glue didn't peel off very well at all, and the record was ruined.

Quite a few demo videos on "tube".
I would think any PVA glue would work but I'm not 100% sure what reaction it would have with the vinyl record - it may pull out more than the dirt...

I have a second hand copy of Neil Young's Harvest that I'm tempted to try it on, but I would love to hear from anyone with first hand experience.

Well, I tried once but nothing that a vinyl washing machine could do (and better). It takes lots of glue and it takes too much time to dry ... It's not practical.

I've got a vacuum washer and to be honest it doesn't get used that often. With a carbon fibre brush and one of those sticky Nagaoka rollers I can keep my records pretty dust free. The machine gets used mainly for second hand purchases, when it does a great job of getting sticky finger marks off the record and clearing out the grooves. Once a record is cleaned I find I don't need to do it again. (Except that really grungy discs benefit from two or maybe three washes before being played.)
When assessing costs of the wood glue method (assuming you don't actually ruin a record!) the main one will be your own time. With a RCM it takes 5 minutes (tops) to do a record. For either method, IMO, you need to use a new antistatic inner sleeve for the now pristine record.

Bob, like you I have carbon fibre brush and a Nagaoka roller. So I'm only really talking about cleaning the odd second hand purchase. I'm really thinking that if it works, maybe I'll by more second hand. I think I'll give it a go and report back.

I clean when I notice crackle or if/when I feel the urge! I use a dust filter in the house and an anti-static gun on my records. MM/Bob is right IMO about putting clean records into a new inner sleeve. Jon

Well it peeled off easily enough and certainly looks cleaner than the other side. The problem I had was where glue had got under the edge and stuck to the other side. There's still a bit I haven't managed to get off so I can't play side 1. I also had great difficulty getting off a little blob that I'm not sure where it came from.
I played the cleaned side and it still sounds dreadful. I don't know whether it's a damaged record I bought or whether it's a bad pressing. How common are / were bad pressings?
I'm tempted to buy the album (Neil Young's Harvest) on CD to see what it should sound like. Yes, I know that comment contradicts itself.
Now listening to Ogden's Nut Gone Flake - "Good God Man, he thorkus".

A household unit with cleanable filter bought in Argos. It makes a little noise so I tend to run it overnight to remove light airborne dust and fibres. Oops, nearly missed the Ogden's reference - Mad John if memory serves.

Undoubtedly bad pressings exist. As long as I could find I prefer japanese pressings, they are second to none
