Bristol - will Proprius be there?
That's the big question on our minds right now.
We're working into the small hours hoping and praying the Proprius will make a big splash at the Sound & Vision show starting February 24th at the Marriott City Centre Hotel.
But the cliff-hanger is we don't yet have a case wrapped around it!
We have some of the UK's best metal designers and metalworkers awaiting the arrival of this board...

I just have to machine a heatsink, mount it and test it. Sounds simple? I wish it were. I just hope I don't make a silly error. Then it's off to have its jacket fitted. Wish me success.

I do hope you manage to have it ready in time to strut it's stuff in public.
That would be a rather nice conclusion to the lengthy development process.

Best wishes again to all of you. I won't be in Bristol at the end of next month but I am looking forward to the day when I hear music through a Proprius amplifier.

Bristol - will Proprius be there?
The sad answer is no.
I just got the case costs and they've killed the entire project dead.
That's a British company trying to buy British -- it simply doesn't work -- Britain is down the pan and barking mad to boot!
I mean, a case that's a bit of heatsink extruded by the ton, a couple of sides extruded in a similar manner (and in Italy), a tin bottom, and a couple of small pieces of punched aluminium for front and rear -- the cost? More than the PCB, all the electronic components, the chunky 120W external power supply and the cardboard box we were going to sell it in -- yes more! I ask you....
And then people ask why Britain isn't working....
That's the last time I ever ask a high tech British company for a quote.

I hate to say this but would you consider a Chinese made case?

Or in possibly as part of the DAK range and buyers supply their on case if you have already had the PCB's produced.

Various bits of GSP Kit ..well two so far, unless you count the cables that is.

Very frustrating and surprising economics. I thought the same as Miguel, and I can see a cheaper box would still need some work in the workshop.

graham, i wondered if you had found a solution to the cost of the case manufacturing?

Yes. It's called a Yorkshire company. The cost of living must be extortionate down south - either that or the case manufacturers are...
Too late for Bristol though.

Glad you have found a solution, Graham. Sorry about not having a production model for Bristol, can you show the prototype?

Any more news/updates/ specs on the proprius? Sorry Graham know you must be tired of people asking! Then if you develop speakers one could have a complete Graham Slee outfit for vinyl. And to then a DAC, and a complete outfit for digital.

I'm off to see the metalwork maker tomorrow regarding a number of issues and I hope he'll have some ideas on the Proprius case ideas I've put to him.
A few contacts have called in for a listen to the existing prototypes and have commented on the "hole-free" and "independence of the speakers" sound stage (being driven by other items of our origin).
I doubt we'll be developing speakers within the confines of our premises. It would require a move and my way of working isn't part of the the UK authorities mind-set (although it is in places like Japan) so I'd doubt I'd ever obtain planning permission to run a business in the Olde English way. They had big problems understanding it the way it is - long story - small premises. It is very difficult for people such as I to come to terms with the fact that the entire UK governance has a brain size smaller than the size of a pea (IMO). You can homogenize milk but not homo sapiens - latin for "wise man"... oh really?!?
As for digital - when the chip manufacturers again offer DAC chips for people with a brain (probably not this side of Armageddon) I will do a proper DAC.
