I have compared over 13-15 aftermarket cables ranging from $125 to over $500 using a Sennheiser HD600. To my ears the best sounding one wash $195 but the $125 was almost as good and  you really had to listen long and hard to hear the difference. So I bought the $125 from Headphile using their "blacksilver" wire.

Note that what is good for me may not be for you, at the time I was looking to improve the treble extension of the HD600 and the silver cable did it for me. However not only are cables expensive but what may work in one system may not work in another.

As an alternative to a cable may I suggest you remove the foam in front of the driver and replace it with a ladies stocking stretched over the driver to protect it. You may be surprised by the change (or not).

Hi

I upgraded ages ago to a Cardas cable and was really impressed by the difference on both the 600's and 650's. Although this isn't a cheap option, in my opinion it is very worthwhile and makes a great set of phones even better. The only downside (other than price) is that the cable is less flexible. There are usually good condition second hand ones around on eBay..
