the options for portable amps is immense. so i have made a shortlist , based on price, availability in uk.

1) GS voyager , preferably used at around £120

2) LD MK1+ GOLD new at £121

3) Neco soundlab V2, with ad8610 and 500ma battery , new at £106

i would like to calm the harsh highend of the pro900 straight from ipod, and also try to bring out the recessed mids.

have read numerous reviews on the amps mentioned, but would be grateful for any advice for specific use with this headphone.

thanks

maybe this would have been better posted in the "high fidelity headphone user forum"?

Hi there, if the highs of the PRO900 are harsh and the mids recessed it sound like a job for an equalizer. Perhaps you should consider selling the PRO900 and getting another can. As an alternative you could buy all three of the amps in question and then sell the two that "do not cut the mustard". IMO the Voyager is a warm, musical, and engaging amp that should provide you with many hours of enjoyment. However the real judge should be your ears and thus why I suggest you buy all three and compare them.

Buying them all and comparing them seems an expensive route to go down ... unless you can find them used on auction sites. Can you not stroll down the Tottenham court road and find shops that will let you try them out?

There's one shop on Tottenham Court Road that has a good selection of cans to try, AT, Senn, Grado, Shure but I don't think there's any left with anything more than Pro-ject or Creek amps in stock. Neco is ebay only. I've only seen LD online/ebay in the UK. Voyager is stocked by a number of retailers, though many of those are mainly/wholly online... supply gap in the market?

If not, you can always sell it on ebay. You may even make a profit :) Tip - always check the past sales listings to see what the going price is...

Oldson, Hi.

Slightly off topic, I know but what's your opinion of your StageDac and how do you connect it to your PC? (USB, SPDIF?).

Best

Yes, in a typical application you bypass the DAP's internal amp and the overall sound is much cleaner since you are feeding the external amp a line level signal.

sound seems much cleaner to me already, over my desktop system.
i guess that is down to battery power?
